Virgin Mobile hardly better

wot? nothing about data costs?
That to me is the killer part of the offering.

For off-peak calls it may be true. But during business hours it's hard to fault. Not to mention the data prices, which most people (myself included) would join for alone, and keep their existing provider for voice.

I'm switching to virgin mobile tomorrow :)

Middle volume users may find some benefits, but will probably not want to give up the opportunity of upgrading their cellphone every 18 months.

Since when can you upgrade after 18 months?!?!

Yea I'm currently only able to upgrade 3 months before the contract is due to end.

You can upgrade after 5 minutes if you want - no one mentioned the penalties though.... :D

So sad to read an article like that, but probably true...

..bad article..
Huh!?

I thought it was quite revealing to reveal the TRUE cost of using the service. They've taken the smoke & mirrors away and revealed what the provider is doing to try and APPEAR cheaper. i.e. giving with one hand and taking away with another.

It may suit some heavy users, and the data offering is good but that's about it.

Anyone know what it costs to call Virgin from a landline? That's often another 'hidden' cost. It's typical Richard Branson. He's come to offer the doff Africans some shiny beads :D

It is true, and pours some reality on the Virgin hysteria

be on the lookout for the double phone nerds :D

1 for voice and one for data.
He he!
Have you ever wondered why the cellphone makers haven't included two simcard slots?? The power of the networks again ...

I managed to get a dual-sim add-on for my phone in Hong Kong last year.

Key in *100*# and it logs off your current network and logs in the other one. Pretty nifty device for around 80 bucks.

I want one (a nokia) that can take both sims simultaniously, displaying "Sim Card One: Dave calling", when Dave from the suppliers calls me on my office number, and "Sim Card Two: Liefie" when my gf calls my personal number.

Hectic  Chances of getting something like that here though :(

Still, one phone for data and one for everything else really is a possibility now i guess...

I am still not wetting myself like everyone else is at Virgin's offers to date though. :|

VM may be the better data rate option. As far as prepaid is concerned that 5 minute barrier won't be an option. I read somewhere that (someone with the exact stats please post) 80% of prepaid users make 1-2 minutes calls per day.

They did say that they were aiming for the high volume users...can't remember who or which article that they say that in, but that was their aim in the first place.

Whether VM is indeed cheaper or not, the thing that really makes me feel optimistic is that someone has finally come up with something different from everyone else.
