Virgin Mobile targets 300 000

Only 300 000?
I give them 6 months to do that.
Great brand, decent pricing and brill customer service!
Bend over Vodacom and MTN!

You're obviously speaking of experience garnered overseas.

Virgin Group's chairman, English billionaire Richard Branson, said: "Consumers clearly like what we are doing … We have experimented with the Brits, the Americans and the Australians, and we sold 8 million to 9 million … phones in those markets."

Likewise, it would be foolish to base any projections from experience in other, better regulated, competitive markets. This is South Africa, where the cartels have mastered the art of pushing new entrants into small niche markets with little expansion prospects.

I like their planned concept, simplifying the mobile fee structure and not hiding charges, but that said, they're still here to make money and Vodacaom and MTN will fight to keep their business and affluent customers from migrating across. There's still room for lowering prices and making money. The benefit to the consumers is that finally added competition will realise a more realistic view of market-forces in action.

Pity fixed-line telecoms will take longer to reach this point :(
