What do guys think of Virgin Mobile? How is theyr service, offers and ext. I just wanted to know.

VM is good, not above average IMO, but they're okay. I'm on VM prepaid and it works out much cheaper than the other networks did, I just wish they could keep it 35c for all sms's, not only after your first 5 ;) They're good I'd say.

They have a lot of issues.

The negatives:

  1. Utilises the Cell-C network. Virgin doesn't have a network of their own.
  2. Their advertising doesn't match their reality.
  3. Data access tends to be slow and rather up and down.
  4. Customer service is patchy, depending on whom you get at the end of the line.
  5. They don't call back.
  6. Operators DO NOT have the power to fix all issues. - contrary to promises.
  7. A supervisor is almost NEVER around - contrary to their promises.
  8. They don't always respond to e-mail.
  9. Information given out by operators tends to be inconsistent.
  10. Recharge vouchers start from R50.
  11. The bonus scheme, VRewards, doesn't show a correct balance at the moment.
  12. Settings requests are awfully slow and require a return SMS.
  13. Their normal SIM may not be fully compatible with 3G/HSDPA cards - need 128K.

Positives:
  1. Waiting time to get an operator is consistently low.
  2. Data has a cheaper price tag @ 50c/Mb.
  3. Call costs are cheaper for longer calls/higher daily usage.
  4. SMS are cheaper between Virgin users.
  5. Little difference between Pre-Paid & 'Contract'.
  6. Starter (Access) packs are cheaper at Edgars/CNA/Jet. So it's only R5 loss to try them.
  7. You can change your number for free. The better sequence type numbers start at R395.
  8. They DO respond to hellopeter.
  9. Virgin adds a dedicated menu to your phone providing easy access to services such as account balance and settings.

VM offer the cheapest data rate @ 50c a meg, their calls are not so cheap.
but the sms are cheaper.I am on VM pre-paid for data usage, which is rather good, I use my Nokia N80 as a modem with a VM sim and I can spend hours on the net without any problems.I must say VM has inproved over the last couple of months.Regards

I only use them for data, which tends to be down quite frequently, but its not too bad as long as you have a backup. Took me over 2 weeks to get a starter pack delivered and then another few days to activate it with endless phone calls etc. Since its been up and running its been fine though.

Btw, do we get VRewards for data at all?

Nop, I've loaded and used R200 worth of airtime for data use and no VRewards yet. But VM internet access and availibilty has been good to me so I can't complain.

More advise pleeeeez!!!!!!

I won't go for Virgin Mobile.

Like someone said earlier, their biggest drawback is that they're part of the CellC network (been there, didn't get the T-shirt).

CellC's support is shocking, now if Virgin depend on them to open new accounts, etc. - I think you're in for a rough ride.

Rather go with the two big boys.

Used about the same as well, but heard they had problems with the system so thought maybe that was why.

Virgin mobile is cheaper if you are a high end user.

They can't beat my R135.00 p/m top-up contract....

It depends, when you factor in the price of actually buying a phone etc it doesn't always work out cheaper. Especially if you make most of your calls off peak.

virgin was suppose to make things alot cheaper and they have not done it

i will stick with my contract at vodacom works out cheaper with my 240 anytime minutes

So jou vriendin is Robert Moreland se dogter? Was nog nooit by Malmesbury se nuwe swembad nie, gaan swem gewoonlik by my swaer. En wat van die warmwater-bron ontwikkeling waaroor almal so praat? Weet jy iets daarvan af?
