Virgin Price Drop

It's not all about price. Virgin has been very slow and unreliable recently. No matter how cheap, the frustration factor will always win the day.
Yep, but some of us will always go for the cheapest offer simply because we want as much as we can get. My Virgin has been very errstic but I suspect it to be the Vodacom tower I am on.

VM, VC and MTN.
:D
I like this idea - increased competition at a micro level, but how do you manage to keep track of which SIM card(s) still have data available?

PS: As you know, VM aint got no network of its own, should be VM.CellC, VC and MTN :).

Yeah, but VM and Cell C have different pricing so it's still competition even if they are competing against themselves.

I agree - if Virgin brings out bundles, it would be shooting down the very principle that made me switch to them in the first place.
Maybe not a bundle but the same thing as they have in calls would be nice. Lets say, a D100 contract at 19 cents per meg with a minimum per month of R150 or something like that idea, Makes the out of package minutes cost a lot less or even give better data rates for the V100 and V500 contracts.

Well, technically that's more of a decreased rate than a bundle, so I'm in favour of this idea. I am conisdering switching to one of the plans, as I am currently on a V0, but I spend at least R100, and often more than R200, per month.

In MHO, the price drops by MTN and Vodacom are mere marketing strategies. Wow, bandwidth at 19c/MB... but have you seen how much you have to buy first? And what you don't use you loose...

Unless you are only using 3G or EDGE for internet access as you are permenantly on the move then ADSL or Wifi are better options.

If you are like me who only uses 3G or EDGE when he travels or is needing to quickly change a setting on a clients website whilst having a beer at your local Dros, then Virgin Mobile is perfect. I changed cos I used to spend over R200 per month on GPRS (cos Vodacom says the EDGE doesn't work in SA).

Now I pay over R50 per month for EDGE... VODACOM is just another word for telkom...

Precisely!!!!

Not really. The cost of a 2GB bundle is the same or less than the adsl subscription costs (depending on the speed) and that's without any data included. Mobile data is becoming increasingly cost effective and it's easy and fast to switch providers and secure and can be used anywhere. Security is something Telkom and the isps have been severely lacking. If VM does not drop the price drastically they will lose out on this very profitable market. Who would have ever thought this would happen in South Africa.

I agree, and the sooner the better.

I use adsl at work and mobile internet at home. The one thing I have noticed on a netmeter graph is that adsl is far more stable than mobile internet. You get almost a consistent download speed on adsl, while on mobile the speeds move up and down. This being said, it still doesn't justify Telkom's pricing. Mobile internet is becoming more popular than adsl because of the lower minimum cost. IMO VM set the ball rolling with their data pricing being four times cheaper than everyone else. Hopefully, they can set the cat among the pigeons with even cheaper rates, seeing that other providers have not reduced out of bundle rates as yet.

I still don't see why I should fork out for 2GB when I use average of 100MB a month? the major bulk is being done on my office ADSL? yes... 19c per mB will be nice... but I don't need that much bandwidth... Penny wide pound foolish!

True but we don't all have the luxury of office adsl. If it comes down to getting adsl or 3G for low usage I'm sure even you will see that 3G makes financial sense and the instant activation, no hassles, and mobility is something adsl will never have.
