My mobile phone supports push email. But i'm not sure who does the pushing, so to speak.

I've set up my pop 3 email account on my mobile, which allows me to check manually, but what about this push thing?

Is this something that virgin has to support for it to work?

Or does the pushing come from webafrica? (host)

I'm guessing its some sort of Blackberry-type system where it has to be set up on the server, not sure though. What phone do you have?

At the moment, you need a blackberry plugin for your exchange server. Or you could use Yahoo! email (Well, it is in limited beta, but you could get lucky)

I got se v630i

The error message for push email - 'push email is not supported by server'

The server bit, is that refering to Virgin or Webafrica?

Boodles : Whomever your IMAP provider is. Could be anyone. MWeb, Webafrica, you company, Yahoo!, etc

WebAfrica, with pop3 settings. If that sounds right, lol

If i'm correct pop3 and imap and kinda the same, but not really, sort of, maybe.

So should i phone webafrica and ask them whats the story with push email?

Boodles : You wont get it. Push Email is more correctly known as Push IMAP (Which in turn is a very new addition to IMAP to give it the capabilities that blackberries get through their Exchange Plugin)
IMAP and POP are worlds apart. They are two competing methods of accessing email.

Right now Push IMAP is very had to find. Yahoo! have a limited beta. And of course, RIM (The blackberry people) have their own highly popular version

Thnaks for your info Jstrike.

Johnit, i'll check out your suggestion as well.

BTW, I'm guesing your mobile you are refering to is a SE. In which case the Push IMAP is pretty useless in anycase. If you have to open a mail client to see if you have email, might as well send-and-recieve. Very badly thought out
