The scourge of Aids has so ravaged the area around Nelson Mandela's home village of Qunu that primary schools there have introduced compulsory virginity testing to ensure children between the ages of 10 and 15 abstain from sexual activity.

Adelaide Madyibi, a principal at NoMoscow Senior Secondary School, sent out notices to guardians and parents earlier this year informing them that all pupils would undergo compulsory virginity testing.

"There are schools in the village where children are engaged in sex from as young as 12 and teenagers below even Grade 11 have dropped out after testing positive ... so we felt we had to at least do something," said Madyibi.

Questions questions -

How is this not a gross invasion of privacy ?

How do you test boys for virginity ?

How is is not discriminatory to only test females?

On what basis can these tests be compulsory ?
These kids are under age so surely there must be parental permission ?

Who performs these tests ?

What happens if you are found not to be a virgin ?

Virginity testing - coming soon to a school near you ....

just one problem. blacks will always test positive and rest negative. africa always first with the idiotical backwards way of thinking.

Asked about the test procedure, he said it was an old, well known tradition.

"Young boys also have hymen - white lacy skin on the foreskin. If the foreskin on the penis slips away easily, it means the hymen is gone. If the foreskin is sore and hard to move, then it means he is still a virgin," Khumalo said.

Other methods include checking for a certain vein on the penis.

"The only time the vein can disappear is when a boy sleeps with a virgin because her vaginal opening is still tight," he said. "If a boy urinates straight up into the air, he is a virgin. If the urine sprays, he has had sex before."

When Khumalo was told about the doctors' views, he reacted: "Forget about doctors. They don't know what they are talking about. If they say boys don't have hymen, what do they call the white part around the foreskin then?"

This makes beetroot and the african potato look positively believable.

Edit: On reflection , that this kind of thinking is out there is really scary.
 
African Renaissance - in reverse ?

What happened to Mr Mbekis vision of an African Renaissance ?

This idea of 'testing' is preposterous, it fascilitates an environment where sexual
abuse can be easily practiced and where superstitious/abnormal attitudes to virginity and
sexuality are likely to come into existence.

Who is protecting these children from their parents and communities.
Why are some of these children having sex at such a young age to begin with.

Where are the mothers and fathers of these children ?
What did they teach their children about sex and sexuality, directly (through their own actions) and indirectly ?

All this is done to reduce the HIV prevalence in the area ?

This is probably just a sampling of what is happening in many rural areas of our country today.

The nature of this larger problem (HIV through sexual promiscuity without using protection) is preventable. It is a simple matter of education.

I can surmise thus that many simply do not understand what HIV is, and that the drive to educate people on preventative measures is failing, especially in those (rural) areas where it would have done the most good.
 
This... in this day and age? It's almost unbelievable.

There's only one way this kind of thinking can go, and that's downhill.

LOL.yeah..I am almost sure all the guys here can urinate straight up into the air if they wanted.......now were freaking virgins........:D gonna be hard convincing my wife.............
 
This has made my day. Actually going to print that article off and stick it up on my fridge for when I need a lol after a bad day :D
