Virtual Cell Number for SMS

Is there a virtual number in SA that actually works?
I keep getting a request from Twitter to enter my cell number all of a sudden and I really don't want them having it on some database somewhere. I've had my Twitter since 2010 without any issues and now this. All I use it for is to read the news I'm not an avid poster
