Virtualization + Vista x64

Anybody here managed to get VMWare workstation running with Vista x64 as the host OS?

I just get errors, freezes and grief....and thats *before* I even start a virtual machine. I'd say its more unstable than Vista.

Virtual box doesn't seem to support x64 host OSs.

Virtual PC is not an option because it doesn't support the linux flavours well.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, the version I have (for Windows) is supposed to support both:

32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista as host and guest operating systems

SP1 is installed yes.

I'll head over to their forums. Maybe they have a magic solution.

I run Vmware workstaition on Vista x64 with Sp1 and I have no problems. Works like a dream infact. Which version are you trying to install?

I'm running an old-ish version 6.0.0.45731. I wasn't too keen on the 300mb download for the new version...but since you've got it working, it might be worth a shot. Thanks.

ETA:

VMware did not claim support for Vista SP1 Ultimate on VMware Workstation 6.0.2.

Should have checked about the SP1 part. Thanks Linoman.

ETA2: Wootage. The download works over local only adsl.

ETA3: Works now. Really cool program. Not everything is perfect, but its impressively close to really installing an extra OS.
