Can someone help me here?
I am travelling to Germany for 2 weeks on Business. The company does not allow Skype on company laptops. Vodacom RSA wants a R5000 deposit for roaming.I want to call the family on Skype via my Galaxy Tab. How do i obtain a prepaid data sim in Germany and how much would the approx costs be?

I also have a Vodafone modem that i can use with my Trendnet wifi hotspot and log on to that.

Or, is it easier to take my Iphone 4 with and buy a prepaid sim with some data and some voice on?

Also, anything else that i must watch out for concerning this?

Thanks,

The First Commandment of Data Roaming applies: THOUGH SHALL NOT EVEN CONSIDER IT, UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE IS PAYING. EVER

I bought a prepaid sim with 2Gb on it last year, and it worked like a charm - can't remember the price though. If you can do without the video calling rather go the prepaid landline route. PM me and I will send you a link.

Roaming = Very Bad Idea.

But I know from experience that it's not nearly as easy to get a prepaid SIM in Germany as it is here, even with this new RICA nonsense. Also it's quite expensive, they're not big on prepaid.

What is easy though is to just use your wi-fi connection instead. There are plenty of open hotspots in some places and especially hotels etc should offer you this. So just connect the Tab's wifi and use Skype that way.

Hi , Please rather purchase a prepaid sim once you there , its the cheaper option , not sure what their sims would cost you but the tariffs are cheaper than these.

Vodafone D2 = R17.50 per meg
Germany O2 = R128.00
T-Mobile = R128.00
E-Plus = R128.00
