This may be due to the fact that I've recently got my yearly report from Google of where they tracked me over 2018, I was disappointed to find out that according to them I have only visited 7 cities over the past year. I really want to change this and I really want to over compensate.

Initially I was thinking of doing the Thailand holiday thing. Was thinking Thailand, from there fly to a couple other South East Asian countries with no visa requirements then onto Hong Kong and day trip to Macua. That's going to be a lot of flying and flights going to add up.

Then I thought Europe it's pretty tiny and most countries are driving distance from each other , tickets cost about the same , accommodation cost a bit more and I'm sure there's affordable public transport so it could work out cheaper and I'll probably could do it for a similar price if not cheaper.

What I was thinking is Amsterdam, Brussels with a day trip to Lille (France), Luxembourg Cologne back to Amsterdam to fly out all in around 10 to 12 days.

Haven't been to Europe before, is it doable and what are the transport options available?

Europe is your best bet. Get your Schengen visa and then rail your way to fun all over the continent.

Fly into Amsterdam. Think in 10 days you can cover a lot of ground.

Kind of an odd goal to hit as many cities as possible, rather than visiting places you're interested in. You don't really have a preference over Asia, South America or Europe...it's just the numbers?

To be fair I'm interested in a lot of different places, too many to list.

Then see the places you're most interested in and spend more time there? Different strokes I guess, but I 'd rather the time to explore a new place than get there, spend a few minutes eating something nice and running off again.

edit: sorry - I realize I'm not answering your question and just telling you what I'd prefer :X3:.

2 days per a city I think is plenty time to experience the culture of the city. Not that into guided tours and stuff like that.

2 days is still a bit short imho, usually spend at least 3 days and was in Budapest a couple of days ago, couldn't even visit every attraction in that time, but I did walk everywhere so buying a hop on/hop off bus might make it easier.

I find it dumb if people go to a place for a day, you barely scratch the surface of the city in that time. Trying to visit as many places as possible seems dumb to me, wasting money just to say I've been there rather than going to a place for longer and enjoying yourself.

In Europe it is pretty easy to get anywhere and you don`t worry about driving, and you can get quite cheap accommodation through airbnb and travel by bus/train to wherever, some places we stayed at gave us free regional transport tickets. Baden-Württemberg, Alsace and Switzerland makes a pretty nice triangle to explore.

Airbnb can be very hit or miss in Euro, I go up 3 times a year to visit my son and accommodation prices through airbnb can sometimes be beaten by traditional booking sites.

If you want to visit lots of countries Urists suggestion is great. Very central and you can visit 5 countries that are a stones throw away. However Switzerland is VERY expensive for central Europe.

I'm heading up to Germany next month and am going around France, Belgium and Hungary for 3 weeks, with flights, car hire and accommodation that set me back around 25k so far and I do it on the cheap but with decent accommodation (no hostels or private rooms) so you can do it cheaper but you'll need to factor in transport costs, food (don't eat out!) and spending money.

Africa? Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, etc...

Doing all those countries in one go seems harder to do.

XP points really

You can do Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe in a matter of minutes. There's a point were the almost all meet.

To get even more countires done quickly, Europe is probably best. Lots of small countries which can easily be moved between.

Would I need a separate Visa for Switzerland?

Nope, shengen work`s there, didn`t even have to show my Visa when crossing the borders, the borders there are very open. You can go to these countries with a single visa
