I'm sure this happens to most people running Vista with the Aero theme enabled... When I run certain applications in Vista with the Aero theme enabled, Windows will automatically disable the Aero theme whilst the application is open and switch to the basic theme. When I close the program, Vista will automatically switch back to the Aero theme.
This does not affect the program negatively, but is more of a nuisance, as the screen flickers and changes when it switches between themes everytime I run some applications. Older programs seem to do it more so than the newer ones.

Does anyone know how I can stop Vista from automatically changing themes when running programs?

I get that too, right click on the program's shortcut, compatibility, you will have an option to disable the windows aero, maybe thats ticked?

The reason it changes themes is because the program you're running has displayed instabilities with the Aero theme in the past. It would be in your best interest to leave it be. Unless, of course, you like your programs unstable.
