As a lot of you know, I have gone through many patches on how I feel about Vista. Most recent was I despised it with all the strength in my body.

I prefer *NIX based systems and from Windows usually tweaked Server editions such as 2003 and 2008.

For the last couple of months, had XP PRO, Server 2008 and Ubuntu installed.

Anyway never really used XP anymore, I dunno it is fantastic piece of software but I spent most of my time in Server and Ubuntu.

Thus it got deleted, then my Server 2008 refused to see my DVD RW drive, no matter what I did. Not sure what the hell happened to the install. Thus I thought it was better to just install.

Last Ubuntu upgrade from Alpha 6 to Beta, killed it completely, only time I have ever known Linux to delete its self.

Thus last night I decided, I did not want to spend +-hours and hours setting up Server 2008.

So I decided to install Vista (I do have a legal license), installed it, added SP1 and another 200mb worth of updates.

I'll install Ubuntu 8.10 final when it is released.

Why did I choose Vista?

a) I am not going to install XP, since my machine can run Vista quite nicely these days.

b) I am not waiting til Windows 7 is released

c) I actually own it

d) I don't have the time anymore to spend hours and hours setting up Server 2008.

Another thing, as much as I hate to admit it, Vista has come a long way with all the updates, since the original RTM edition.

Would I recommend it to anyone, if your PC can support it. Yes but do not go out and buy a PC for Vista if XP runs fine on it.

Which is what I've been saying all along  :p

My Laptop was designed with Vista in mind and it performs pretty amazing, I have no regrets even with just 1GB RAM (will definitely add more RAM later).

Got rid of XP and installed Vista months ago and have not lost any sleep over it. But using Kubuntu as my main OS with XP as a VM.

My thoughts exactly :D

I would probably use Kubuntu instead of Ubuntu but always have trouble with KDE 4.1x. So I'll stick with Ubuntu:confused:

I'm using KDE3, hopefully 8.10 final will have a stable enough KDE 4.1

The beta refuses to mount my NTFS partitions I have no idea why. Only ever had this problem with Kubuntu

Same here gave XP the boot after Vista SP1 came out.. Also working nice now after all the drivers became more stable, running most software successfully after finding out settings needs to change or which needs admin rights..
So yeah Vista FTW!!!!!

Had the same problem with kubuntu but found out I had to do this...
System settings>Advanced>Disk&filesystems>Admin mode>use modify to edit volume permissions and startup options.

That sorted me out.

Do you think it is worth me install Kubuntu again

Vista is ok for home, but for work we still prefer Windows XP.

Interested to see what Windows 7 will look & run like.

You gotta love it that setting is not in 8.10 beta:confused:
