Vista or XP for gaming

Hi all just looking for your opinion here:

I got the following pc specs:

Pentium D 3.0ghz
4gb ddr2 667 ram
nvidia 9600gt

I am currently using vista x64 but feel its too greedy with my ram and resources. Would you switch back to xp pro?

Mainly use the pc for gaming, wow, css, tf2, cod4, etc
 
XP > Vista

Just my personal choice. I'm just having a massive problem. It's not very easy to replace Vista with XP :(

But I'm on the same boat currently and trying my best to replace Vista with XP

Ja, its not really a issue just format and reload xp should take a hour to get xp up and running. but to back eveything up will be the worst.

The problem is, you can't partition Vista with an XP boot disc. I have been searching online today and got somethings to try tonight
 
Both is pretty good for gaming since your pc is strong enough to run any of the 2 . it's all down 2 what u feel the most comfortable with.
I prefer Xp.
 
Keep in mind as well that those cpus don't have a memory controler on die like the AMDs.
It's on the mobo and a upgrade in that department will help, if that is an issue for you...

I am very happy with Vista 64bit...

PS: Have you loaded SP1 yet?
 
I would definitely 'upgrade' to XP....Vista is a greedy little monster. You will without doubt see a significant increase in your gaming performance which to me is invaluable.
 
after getting the 4850; vista 64 runs allot better over my old 8800GT.

i still have xp 64 for the occasional game that wont work very good or not at all under vista 64 like vampire masquerade bloodlines.
 
I am very happy with my Vista64. It never gives me problems and I hardly ever reboot. XP on the other hand gave me years of crap. I hate, ne.. despise XP.

That said, you need a PC that can run Vista if you are going that direction. Dunno if a Pentium is a good choice for this, the rest of the specs are good.
 
I don't understand how you can say vista feels greedy with your ram resources, your have 4 gig memory :p, sure vista is ram greedy but when you have 4 gig ram i doubt you will feel vista chomping on tons of ram.
 
lol dont get me wrong vista runs well on my system most my scores are 5.7-5.9 except for my processor which gets 4.7. No problems with any games busy with new brothers in arms atm. its just that I feel I can get a little more performance wise using xp.
 
Vista 64 gets my vote. If you have the hardware I would go for vista. It had issue at the start(just like xp) but right now there's not much difference when it comes to dx9 games and vista has dx10.

Its really now down to personnel preference.
 
Well load xp and see if you get more performance but i doubt you will, vista 64 bit is as fast asbut give a shot man and see.
 
Did sp1 give you any extra 'performance' ? Been contemplating installing, just didnt want to break that which is working :)
 
I had Vista Starter on my machine and it sucks dog balls.

I'm back on XP now. And my problem is that I only have 1GB ram so that is why Vista is such a bitch for me
 
Upgraded from Vista ultimate to Xp.
Sounds to me like you do not want to change that cpu?
If thats the case stay with Xp.
You should see the benchmark difference of Quake 4 running on the 2 machines!
Xp is not a greedy monster,and directx 10[vista] is not what its cracked up to be anyways.
Refer to a pc format magazine for proof of this very debate.

The vista ram requirements for games is also usually double than whats needed in xp ! :sick:
