Vista or XP

@ Roquefort

It's actually better to leave Aero Glass enabled if you have a decent video card, as the GPU then does the processing, instead of the CPU. It really works out well if you can run it, it stops that tearing and other weird issues XP sometimes used to have.

Go for Vista. The interface can cause some confusion, but underneath it is very stable. I put it through some heavy use this weekend with virtual machines, and even with almost all 4 gigs of Ram used up, it still was responsive and snappy. Xp would have choked by then.

I've found that too. Give it a decent amount of RAM, and Vista seems better than XP at handling heavy load.

More info please....

Dont have much info.... just downloaded the file directx 10 lv from bitfarm.. installed and its says using directx 10....

will try running far cry 2 later on today and will post update on whether it works..

There is a DX10 port/hack to the XP platform. I loaded it but it did not work for me

KK, Think I will go Vista x64 ultimate, but home premium x64 uses much less resources.

Thankyou guys

They use the same amount of resources. Vista Ultimate just has a few added features that Home Premium doesn't have, that's all. :)

If you are going to buy it (which you should :D) the I would say home premium, cause I still don't know what makes Ultimate better... You get dream scene, which I have yet to meet someone who uses it... and Hol'em poker, which is nice... arg, the rest I don't even know about, but the price difference is quite big...

Get, tell me how it runs with that system so I can see if it's worth it :p

Why are people still recommending XP? it's almost a decade old. Get Vista and if you come across a situation were you are forced to install XP just pirate it because it has reached end of life and Microsoft has done a bad implementation of Vista that forces you to downgrade.

But that will never happen so get Vista 64. I would choose home premium, Ultimate is a rip off.
