Hi Guys

Just upgrading my system to the following:

Intel Core2 Duo E8400 - dual core 3.0ghz
ASUS P5ND nVidia 750i SLI Core 2 Duo Motherboard
4gb DDR2-800 Memory
9600GT Gfx Card

Would you suggest XP or Vista. And if Vista would Home Premium X64 be better than Ultimate. I am using it for a gaming pc.

Thanks

I'd still go with XP. Vista, not matter how many SP's they release...still find it just runs badly. That my opinion.

You might wanna go Vista only if you are going to be playing DX10 games.

Go Windows Xp SP3 (+ few updates for internet) + directx 10 LV...

Play dx 10 games on XP

KK, Think I will go Vista x64 ultimate, but home premium x64 uses much less resources.

Thankyou guys

Im on vista 64 ultimate with sp1 which i installed 3days ago....

From day one i had bsods,Superfetch and WMI problems.

Not impressed at all!

good move. and if you upgrade your GC later (1 gig onboard ram etc), vista64 can make use of all the ram available as well since total ram = system ram + other ram eg GC ram + soundcard ram etc.

I'm getting a:
P5N-D
4GB ram
E8500
4850 or 9800gt
500GB HDD

Personally I'd stick with XP sp2 if I were you.

Service pack 3 is a waste of time and it breaks things like msn etc.

Vista is resource hungry as some people have told you but features like the glass thing can be swicthed off, to save resources. Vista also has a lot of compatibility issues, I can't even run battlefield vietnam on vista home premuim.

If you do decide to go vista the only one you should buy is ultimate (its the one closet to completion :P), but to save you I don't know exactly, something like R4000, stay with XP sp2, no compatibility issues, runs smoothly, and besides DX 9/10, who really wants it? DX10 chows more resources so you will be playing on lower graphics, so you might not notice a difference apart from it looking worse.

Conclusion: XP SP2 :)

Dude did you look at his system? i am 100% sure his 4 gig of memory and awesome dual core will run vista better than xp.

It's only the people who have low end system's who should avoid vista.

Go for Vista. The interface can cause some confusion, but underneath it is very stable. I put it through some heavy use this weekend with virtual machines, and even with almost all 4 gigs of Ram used up, it still was responsive and snappy. Xp would have choked by then.

The person who said that you can play Direct3D 10 games on Xp is mistaken, this supposed miracle cure doesn't work.

Vista has it's quirks, but then again so did Xp. In the long run, you'll be far safer as well.
