Vista ReadyBoost

Cool, do you get increase in speed?

Well, not that i could notice really. Didn't really try it that much...You think that running a flash drive like that the whole time affects the drive at all? I mean it's not like a real hdd..

It's not suppose to be a hdd replacement. It's suppose to be a RAM supplement ;) :p I think :D

yeah I know. But i just thought that running it like that the whole time might do some kind of damage to the drive. it's not like flash drives are meant to transfer data 24/7.

It does reduce the life of the flash-drive, flash drives only have a certain amount of writes before it no longer works. Reading is not a issue.

Has this readyBoost made a noticeable difference to anyone?

And how big were the drives used?

its added an extra thing on the autostart menu.

i dont see the value in it.... and people laughed and ridiculed me when i upgraded to 3GB ram when i got vista, saying i wont need it. :D

i use my memory stick for transporting data.

So do you notice a difference with 3Gb RAm rather than two?

*Looks at 2GB Transcend jetflash next to him and contemplates...

Think it will speed up even if I have 2Gb RAM already?

Well I will give it a shot...

It's only really meant to be used by older PC's that don't have enough RAM (512K). With 2GB ram you will only be doing yourself a dis-service by using it.

Indeed, that is basically what I experienced. Not a bad idea if you only have a gig of RAM or less though...

stick usb drive in, IF it is bigger than 256mb, and IF it supports a fast enough transfer rate, THEN the autoplay dialog will give you an option to use readyboost.

How many people have Flash disks smaller than 256mb thesedays, and how would much less than that help anyway?

Fast enough would be standard USB 2.0 so not much there either....

Not actually hey ;) It's actually the transfer rate the drive itself supports, ie. bandwidth per second :p

Usb 2 is a plus, and necessary, but so is a fast flash drive. :D

ya, like the type of USB stick that you can play video off without lag or damage to the disk.
