Hey

Well basically my company has made the move to vista
everything works fine so far the only problem is
we are on a domain and basically when i use remote desktop connection
it askes me to which server i sould connect and then basically it ask for username and password i enter the user name and password and then at the login screen (windows 2003 terminal server) it basically dies the following
lets say the pc's ip address was 192.168.0.1(server im connecting to) and my name was john it would enter the onformation as follows 192.168.0.1/john and the password it would take so

the main problem is how do i get it to leave out the ip address part and just take the username i also tried entering the servers name all it does then is it takes that name as the domain name so yar

any help would be much appreciated as it is a slep having to go and retype the info at login the whole time

thnx in advance

If your connecting from a vista machine to a server with the old RDP ver.

RDP VER.6
Computer name on general tab use the IP or server name
Username - domain name first then username ( xxxxx\username)
password - u know what to do here

If you can't resolve the server by name, check for a A record in DNS for the server, can't resolve by i.p, check the A record again.

Make sure the server allows remote desktop connections, also check that the username is part of the Remote Desktop Users Security group in AD.

i tried the part with the domain first then the machine but sumhow it still doesnt resolve it it just gives a diffrent messages ill post screens a bit later so i can show u okes what it does

plus the most frutrating part off all this is the okes working on the machine aint that computer littrate so telling them they have to whipe out the numbers infront of the username at login is a bit confusing

Thnx okes i came right

basically all i need to do was use the fqdn
and basically then it changed the domain so no more hassless

just a example for anyone else experiencing the problem
in the username box u type [email protected] just replace
user with the usersname and mydomain with ur domain and it sould speck out fine

thnx again okes for the quick reply's
