Vista starter edition

Everyone seems to hate Microsoft and Windows so much... I can't understand why they don't just pirate it.

If you think you're technically-savvy enough to use Linux as your only OS... Believe me, you're technically-savvy enough to find a hacked Windows which Microsoft will never ever detect.

Anyway, unless you want DirectX 10... (The hax for DX10 in XP are not perfect...) Get XP.

Err... cough cough.... If you're techinally-savvy enough to use Linux as your only OS, which I btw do, except for having to use Dreamweaver CS3 in Windows (there is no alternative for this yet, nor does it run on Wine yet), why would you want to use Windows? I believe in using legal software... even if it comes to having to buy M$ virus-infected products.

*k0ff........k0ff*.....open source clone for Dreamweaver is NVU Google it....or if ya like http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=200305...

On topic, i run vista starter on a second partition...i get full 2.5GB of RAM and 1280x1024 graphics....runs like a dream, only using it for gaming DX10 games works like a dream ;)....i think the ATI Catalyst maybe overwrites the 1024x768 resolution lock put in place by M$...(please feel free to correct me on that )

I respectfully disagree. I've tried many and none are able to compete with Dreamweaver...

Froot have you ever thought people might use their system's for more than 1 program that does not run on linux and dual booting is just a mission.

It's pretty simple one OS that does everything is what people want or most people, linux is getting there but its still a bit behind windows because some programs do not work and to get them to work may take hours and hours of googling.

/waits for the linux okes to jump and shout WHAT DOES NOT WORK WITH LINUX :p o boy here we go :p

I totally agree with you, i run on Windows,Mac,sooo many different Linux flavors...i dual boot between 3 diff OS's, and VM the rest. I actually install custom Linux and windows boxes....work with cross platform compatibility all the time and unfortunately people always revert to windows based systems/apps mainly because of support and compatibility issues. One of the best phrases i have ever heard was "Linux is Linux's own worst enemy"...there are just to many updates and changes, new releases etc and no one ever sticks to one release and try's to make it as stable as possible, rather just more features and so on.(gonna get hunted down and shot like a rabbit dog for the comment)

Really? Take Ubuntu for instance... Ibex is more stable than Hardy is more stable than Gutsy is more stable than Feisty is more stable than Gutsy is more stable than Edgy is more stable than Dapper...
I'm helping a friend who's busy with Linobuntu, a custom version of Ubuntu, based on 8.10... adding more features and working on bugs... but the issue is that the new releases are there to improve stability, keep up with the technology, have better support and to be better than the previous one. I don't see a problem with that...

Of course...but rather release an update patch....why re-release the entire distro? its a waste of resources that could be put to good use, a good example of a distro that does this is foresight linux....anyways this is waaayyy off topic.

You have a point, but that will be like installing XP/Vista and then the SP... they are trying to make it so that if you download a release you don't have to download another 500MB file to update old files.

Also take into consideration that not all programs are made by Canonical, so they cannot simply include them all into an update.
