Is there any f2345ing reason you people know why this damn Vista Ultimate will not work with my 3 monitors. XP has absolutely no problem.... I am using a PCI S3 card and an PCI-E card (Geforce 6600).
In XP, I have to enable the PCI card in the BIOS to be the first boot device and it boots up with no problem detecting both cards and all 3 monitors work with no problem - the monitor on the S3 card is obviously slow due to the age of the card and only has a resolution of 1024x768 (16bit). The other 2 monitors attached to the 6600 have full resolution and are used for games etc.

In Vista, the system boots up on the S3 card but it disables the 6600 and the other two monitors don't work. I have installed the latest VISTA drivers for the 6600 but it refuses to work. If I enable the PCI-E (or auto) as the primary device in the BIOS, only the 6600's 2 monitors work and the generic PCI drivers for the S3 card is disabled.

I am not impressed with Vista - my bluetooth belkin adaptor also refuses to work with the latest drivers and then I am not mentioning the TV card either which has no sound. Am running Vista Ultimate (activated and registered).

I am prepared to replace my scanner which does not work under Vista but there are now too many issues to switch XP off for good....!

Could it be that S3 doesn't have a Vista driver for their PCI cards?
Could it be that Vista handles graphics resources differently from XP?

Microsoft makes neither bluetooth or TV-Cards. maybe whine at the manufacturers of those devices for not providing drivers.
My Blutooth dongle from Samsung works flawlessly with no vendor specific driver ;)

Phone Microsoft up on their toll-free number and ask for their help - if your copy of Vista is legal. They are probably the most competent helpdesk I've ever come across.

Only if your copy is retail, if you bought OEM said supplier/store has to help you.

Running XP on Vista

LOL.

I just had an insane thought. :D
Windows XP can run on Linux with a program called Wine.
Perhaps someone should create a program so that XP can run on Vista. :p

Got the idea from reading this thread, Obeying Microsoft: Is wine the way?
Hehe.

The S3 is not really capable of running the Aero effect - however this is not really the reason why its not working out for you. The real problem is that each videocard has to be the same brandname ie ATI or allround Nvidia.

I have exactly the same problem. I run my ATI card with 2 monitors, and a Nvidia MX440 pci on my 3rd monitor. IT refuses to fire up. On its own it works, but Aero won't work because it don't like the MX440. there is also no driver support for the MX440.

So... unfortunately this is the issue, you have to have 2 of the same branded card in your pc.

The solution for me, is to get married to a rich nigerian, get a some one of them fancy mobo's with multiple PCI-E 16x slots and get a videocard for each of them - eish!. - this would be the only solution at present!.

LOL, yes, I read the article. So you want to get rid of the MX440?? I'm running a 6600 so they use the same drivers - should work...

But then why go to all that hassel??? PeterCH - you got the right idea... there is absolutely no reason for me to get rid of my XP installation... and use the Vista I got. Maybe in 2008/9? yes?

i haven't tried the 3-monitor-thing yet, and i'm not sure i'm going to, but i've also experienced countless issues with Vista - i gave up after trying to install my Vodago 3G connect software for the n-th time!

I'm still firmly of the opinion that vista (though pretty) will only really be ready for everyone to use by the time it gets to SP2.
