My SO just realised (10 minutes after gym closes) that she was meant to swipe today to keep her rolling 36 visits a in a 12 month period.
Anyone know if there is a grace period (like if she swipes tomorrow morning)?

The 12 month periods change depending on when you signup.

AFAIK no grace period. Let's be serious for a second though, if you can't go to gym 36 times in 12 months (and by that I mean actually working out, not grabbing a smoothie and leaving) you should probably cancel the contract and use the saving to buy a box of twinkies.

It's free (pre-2010) sign up.
SO has had a crazy year work wise - it's the first time in 8 years that this has been a problem

LMFAO! Savage!

All that happens is that your monthly rate goes up to full price till you make up those visits

That is the new version. The old won was that you pay only a fixed amount and then it is free if you exercise 36 times in a rolling year.

It was crazy to forgo a free gym membership even if she was extremely busy. In fact, aiming for the minimum is never a good idea. What if she had been injured or very ill and coudn't get to the gym for a couple of months?

I have had my membership since 2003 and always make sure that I am a few months ahead to take account of unforeseen circumstances or busy times.

And, no, there is no grace period. The website has already been updated to show the visits for the year starting from 1 January this year. If she logs in she can check.

It would be better to state a MINIMUM of 36 visits a rolling year. Aiming for the minimum is just asking for trouble somewhere along the line. Life happens!

Agreed. Believe me we had it out. Was just trying to ascertain the wiggle room, if any, and try retain the benefit.

Separate question, SO is the main member and I'm the spouse. If SO's gym benefit is gone, do I lose mine also (I've kept up my visits)

I suspect that you will lose it, but check with Discovery anyway. I'm on my own so it's not a situation I've had to deal with, and the website doesn't tackle that aspect as far as I can see.

That's unfortunate. I think they'll be harsh so they can get everyone off it. I'm very surprised that they haven't just said there was a change and moved everyone onto the new system IMHO. Maybe if there are only a few of us left they will just do so, class action lawsuit be damned...

You will lose it, for however long it takes you to get to 36 visits in a 12 month rolling period. Once you hit 36 visits again, it reverts back to normal.

Not with the free pre-2010 version. With those memberships one needs to be extremely aware of being up to date with more than the minimum required in case of circumstances which prevent one from from getting there for a while. If you lose your free membership you start all over again with the relevant lump sum, and then monthly payments where previously there were none.

Ouch. Well I'm on the vitality gym booster benefit, as long as I reach my goals each month Discovery will give me my gym fees back. Granted, it's a schlep to meet those goals some times. (I have to do 900 points a week, which means 3 times a week @ 80% of max HR for 30 minutes.)

You win some you lose some, I wouldn't lose sleep over it, she's had a tough year forgive her.

The only way I was able to get some wiggle room was to show them I traveled extensively out of the country during the rolling 12 months.

Granted that was a few years ago (2009) but if she traveled, she can send then her passport stamps to show and they may give her some grace.

They may be difficult given the structure for the memberships has changed.

Worth a shot.
