Hi, please can someone help? I just bought a new laptop which comes with Vista preploaded (hmmmm), anyway I downloaded the HUGE VMC 9.1.1.5142 installation file. It installed okay but then I try and use it I get an error message "Buffer underrun detected....". The error message simply offers the option of terminating the program, however, what can happen at times is that I notice I am actually connected although there are no indications on the dashboard that I have a connection running. Therefore, what's the point of having all the frills and fancies of the program (including sms support, which doesn't work)?

With that in mind I discovered v9.2.1.6545 on the Vodacom site which I downloaded. Another HUGE file. I uninstalled v9.1x before attempting to install v9.2x. Oh my gosh! This v won't even install at all. During the file copy proccess of the installation it gives me an error:

"Error 1309. Error reading from file: .....\Vodafone\Vodafone Mobile Connect\Bin\SMS\SMS.exe. Check that the file exists and you can access it."

If I select "ignore" I get similar errors with a whole stack of files.

Is there something on my laptop which might be preventing the installation (although installing other software has been 100%), or what?

HELP! (please)

Have electricity - will surf :D

Have you
a) got admin rights?
b) tried right clicking on the exe and selecting "Run as administrator"?

I am pretty sure the "Run as Administrator" should be there in Vista. Mine has it even with the "User Account Control" turned off

Iam3G might have some other suggestions then. You have any anti-virus / anti-spyware apps installed? Can you disable them temporarily and try the install again?

Thanks for your ideas. I turned Norton off and Defender and User Access Control yet I still have the same result. I just reloaded VMCLite...works like a charm. Ah well. At least I can connect, but when I know I can have my cake and eat it...I want to :-)

Cool. As mentioned Iam3G might have some additional suggestions for you if you are still stuck.

This is what you did...

You downloaded the 75Meg Zip from the Vodacom Website, you created a new folder, and you extracted the files(as it is there) into the folder. I have a hunch you used Winzip.

Why its throwing that error...

In the Zip file, the setup and installation files are in a certain file structure. You took it out of that file structure. The installer goes to look for those files in those directories, and doesnt find them, even though they are there.

What you must do...
Open the Zip. Use the "Extract" option of Winzip. You will then find that there is directories with sub-directories. And the setup file in the Main directory. Try running the setup then.

Hope it helps. (hope i am right too)

Ah! This makes sense. He could be running the setup straight out of the zip file.

You are an absolute star! This worked wonders. Pity Vodacom doesn't put this up on thier site in a column next to the download link for the v9.2 download from the outset. Anyway...

This experience has been valuable in more ways than one. Being new to Vista also, I discovered that that Vista allows you to work with zipped/compressed files "seemlessly". There is a consiquence though, that being my battle to install 9.2, so manually extracting the zip IS an important consideration and I shall keep that in mind for future.

Once unzipped, the installation worked 100%, and firing up the app and using sms functions is beeeeeautiful!

Not only do I get my cake and eat it, i get the bells and whistles too. Bargain!

Now that i have v9.2 up and running, ther's no turning back :-)

Thank you very much for your assistance guys. Consider your good deed for the day done.

P.S. Installing from the unzipped content - I didn't even have to disable my virus/spyware or other securities.

Thanks again. I am most grateful.

This frightens me.
Is it not poss for me to go and get a cd with VMC for Vista I can just install? I have just bougfht a new pc and it wont install my existing VMC
I could hassle and fiddle, but I really don't have the time. I am not a techie, and always wonder if I will not cause problems when I install things

FWIW I live close to Voda world. Do they have an easy/foolproof option?>

The cd creates a folder where all the files are stored,so there wont be a problem as mentioned above.
