Hi
I have a Dell Vostro 1520 with a Dell 5530 mini card.
Im running windows 7 ultimate x86 and have VMC version 9.4.3 installed as 9.4.4 keeps on giving errors in the installation.
In VMC it doesnt pick up the Dell 5530 under "Manage devices" but under phone and modems or device manager it picks it up without a problem. I have the latest drivers for the mini card installed.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Check out Dell's Website to see if they have any Software or updated drivers available for the Dell 5530 Mini Card for Windows 7.

I was helping a friend with a Dell Latitude with built in 5530 card. We battled for hours trying to get VMC 9.4.4 working with the card. In the end we used Dell's Connection Manager to connect.

You can get both the Dell Connection Manager and new Windows 7 drivers on the Dell website.

We could also connect using Windows Wireless Manager as well, but stuck with the Dell Connection Manager.

DCP is only for the latitude range, not the Vostros.

Windows Wireless manager gives me a error 734 "The PPP Link control protocol was terminated".

But thanks for the advice. It was worth a try. Vodacom isnt much help with this problem either.
We have a bunch of these notebooks and it is a breeze getting it to work on Vista or XP. This is the first one with Win 7 and I cant get it to work.

Any suggestions welcome

Use the Ericsson Wireless Manager found on the Dell website. Avoid DCP, even you Latitude okes. :)
The one I use comes with the Inspiron Mini 9 which is XP based. Works like a charm on 7.
Search for R198215 on Dell website. ;)

I have same issue. Win 7 32 bit. VCMC 9.4.6. Vodafone software picks up 5530 HSPA modem perfectly but i get RAS 633 error when trying to connect. Connects perfectly with Microsoft's Wireless manager under task manager.

Any comments on RAS 633 error.

Doesn't RAS 633 mean that the COM port is being used by another program?

Is there any way to disable Windows Wireless Manager?

I think the windows wireless manager is using the com port and that is why the ras error. Would like to know how to disable...

Vodacom Dell Studio 1555 - Vodafone Mobile Connect...???

Cant get the laptop working on VMC.

It has the 5530 HSPA embedded modem.

Keeps on getting ras633 error.

WIN 7 loaded.

any help please...

Go to Dell's Website and download the latest Dell Wireless Manager for that device.

Which version of VMC is installed?

Was Windows 7 Preloaded on the 1555? AFAICR it comes preloaded with Windows Vista. Maybe a Driver issue?

Dell Studio 1555

Hi I got this laptop on contract from Vodacom. It has a built in modem, but I keep having problems with it. It doesn't always show as available, when I try to connect I get told no signal, sometimes I can connect but only for a few minutes then I disconnect. Most of the time the connection doesn't show or when I try to connect I get, sim not responding, no network available or no sim inserted. I'm running Windows 7 and all my devices are working properly and I have all the latest drivers from Dell.

Mod Note: Threads merged.

Check some of the suggestions as listed above. If software does not fix the problem it could also be a loose connection. A call to Dell technical support should get a technician who can guide you trough checking the connections to the 3G module.

The problem sounds familiar, im almost sure it's a hardware failure, motherboard most likely.
Log a call with Dell or get the Vodashop to do it, the phone call can get pretty expensive the further from Gauteng you are.

I got the same laptop from VC. Its real cool, everything works 100% for me. Also loaded win 7.
Only problem i have is VCMC doesnt pick up the 5530 HSPA card.
Not even MDMA can see the embedded module.

I stick with the Dell Broadband manager and have no issues.

Rass 633 error with VCMC. It picks up the internal modem as D5530.
