VMWare - Moving to BazaarVCB

Anyone using either for their VM backups?

I chose Bazaar at it now allows you to backup to a REMOTE host and now does restores as well, whereas Ghetto is more of a manual process with regards to the restores and its way more time consuming to configure. Bazaar is just one script vs a script and several config files.

I'll add a blog post later when done if anyone is interested.

I am interested. I was looking at VMware but was confused with all the third party backup solutions.

I'm also looking at Proxmox as a VM solution as it has integrated backup/restore options. Have you had any experience with it?

Nope I haven't.

I know the big commercial one people use is a Veaam Vmware backup. I've never tried or used it though.

My VMWare sits on an ISCI LUN that is mirrored (ZFS send / recv) to another server. So i've got redundancy in that way, then I use GhettoVCB to do individual VM backups (and not the whole LUN drive as I do with the ZFS snapshots). The individual ones are more in case of user error / missing files etc - that I can quickly restore and copy the affected files over.

Seems to work fine so far, touch wood...

Are you using "Windows Previous Version" - When you right click on a folder select properties then Previous versions, it opens up a snapshot of the files ?

We are using that in conjuction with NetApp, My Coluges in Europe set it up, so i tried to set up something simalair with LVM Snapshots, in my home lab env, but for the life of it i cant get windows to show the Previous versions tab, and linkinmg it to the correct snapshot date.
