hi guys

I recently installed VMWare and am running an Ubuntu virtual machine.

couple of questions i was hoping to have answered :

1) How do i get my Ubuntu virtual machine to see my harddrive and my attached USB drives ?

2) How do i get Ubuntu to use the windows network connection to access the internet, if my normal access is via a proxy ? I have checked the settings under "Hardware-->Ethernet" and its set to NAT: Share host's IP address". I have setup the proxy in Ubuntu Firefox but its asking me for username password. I put in the domain/user and password but no joy

This is a windows host running vmware and how are you connecting to the internet?

It sounds like you are using vmware player on windows to play Ubuntu.
The player does not support usb access and if you want to see the local windows hard drive you will have to make a network share and access it thru a SMB service (mount smb share), or maby enable FTP on your windows box (if you are brave).

The internet access problem can be either that you are using PPPOE (or similar) on your windows box to connect to the net, that can be problem as the default gw on your windows box will be your PPPOE device, and not your Local Area Connection. Best in this case is to use a Broadband router to initiate the connection. If your setup is different please let me know.
