Here is the problem. I have an app that does not work at all in Windows 7 (even with backwards compatibility options tab).

Is it possible using VMWARE workstation to load an XP VM and install this app on that vm. Here is the trick... Somehow convert this vm to a a folder with an exe so that everytime the user clicks on the exe it loads the VM but does not go into the VM it simply loads the app that is in that VM.

Dunno about VMWare but I 'think' you can do that with Virtualbox Seamless mode.

VMware Fusion (for Mac) has a feature whereby you run your VM in the background and you can access programs/apps in the VM right from your native OS. In other words, you can have a shortcut to your app in Win7 and when launched, it will run in the VM but look like its running in Win7. I'm sure they offer that for their Windows products..

edit:

With VMWare workstation you can do just that:

Launch virtualized applications directly from the Windows 7 taskbar to create a seamless experience between applications in your virtual machines and the desktop.
