Vodacom ‘Data Only’ Stores open

This kind of specialty store can serve to push the popularity of broadband forward. With a broadband penetration rate of only 0.5% there is a massive untapped market waiting in South Africa.

No offense here, but this is exactly the reason why everyone is using a cellphone - b/c the fixed line telephony costs are way to high for most of the population. If the same thing goes for these "cellular" broadband services there's not going to be much of an increase in broadband penetration as far as these technologies are concerned.

Seriously, when are the operators going to wake up and give the customer what they want - AFFORDABLE communications ???

well soon they'll be able to say something like 'but we offer support services too for that price' bah

3G Stores opening...

For the record, the two 3G data stores that have opened in Tygervalley and Canal Walk Malls are private ventures opened completely independently of the cellular networks. Our company became so overwhelmed by the number of queries relating to specialised data services, we decided to make this service available to the end users in a user friendly environment. "More costs and overheads" is right but we subsidise this out of our existing retail operation - we're taking a long term view that as 3G and data pick up, the specialist stores will become profitable. I also know for a fact to what high level the salespeople have been trained, go check 'em out for yourself....(OK, that was definitely a plug, sorry:D ) PS Gauteng's next....
