Hi all

I use Vodacom 3G on my laptop, I got the deal with their contract so its using the builtin sim card.

I have the issue that the 3G just randomly disconnects by itself, it shows its connected and online, but simply cannot find any sites... just randomly by itself. Then I have to disconnect and reconnect.

Sometimes this happens after 2 minutes, sometimes after 15 minutes. Doesnt really last longer than that.

Did anyone else experience this? My dad also uses Vodacom 3G but his connection stays online until you disconnect it manually.

This is getting very annoying!

Thx for any help!

You need to give more info I think. Laptop type, signal levels, etc.

Are you and your dad together when he stays connected and you not?

Some laptops seem to have dodgy antennas. At least we saw it with some Dell units.

Thanks for the reply.

Its a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro, full signal strength that varies between 3G & HS.

We are sitting in the same room when this happens.

Thx

Hmmm, I'd first try and upgrade every driver, bit of firmware, etc.

- Then try a 3G-only connection.
- Also, open a ping in the background to keep the connection in HS and see if that helps. It could be that the modem does not come properly out of R99 (3G) when switching into HS.

BTW, do you work in the industry? ;)

I did remove all drivers & installed new drivers I downloaded... re-installed the whole Sierra Wireless app. Still no joy....

I also disable my wireless lan when using 3G as I discovered the wireless lan feature on the laptop distracts the 3G then it even gives problems when connecting.

Ok I will try and set it not to switch... now that you mention it, I had an issue with Cell-C a while ago... it kept on disconnecting until I set it to manual as it disconnected me when switching over automatically.

I do web / graphic design & photography ;)
