So I was standing at the post office teller like almost every day, waiting for the lady to finish the parcels, as usual I'm playing around on my iPhone, checking my balance (oh, still R114 airtime left) checking eMails as every day, receiving one plain text email, nothing unusual either, flipping thru album covers, locking the phone again coz the friendly lady is finished now and I have to pay.

Back in the car I wanted to make a phone call and I am checking my balance again, for no reason, usually I don't do that so often at all.

Surprisingly my airtime dropped to R9  within a few minutes. Me, not knowing what hit me, call the Vodatrash hotline to find out WTF is going on. After logging a complaint they call me and tell me I have used 50mb  within 22 minutes, resulting in about R100 airtime usage.

The strange part about it is that I didn't do anything unusual, the annoying part is that they think I'm an idiot and try to explain that some iPhone application can use so much data, like youtube or the weather or stock application. Ya sure, whatever. No man, don't make a fool out of me, I do know very well what I'm doing and using on my iPhone and none of those applications use up 50mb within 22 minutes.

So they call me again to tell me they did charge correctly, I did use 50mb and I will not be refunded.

I told them I don't give a ****, but if this happens again, because I know I didn't use up 50mb knowingly, I will cancel my 3 contracts.

****ing Vodatrash

And you know why I am so upset about it? Because I know it is their fault but can't prove it. This is the second time that this happened. Last time it was only R7 disappearing, I realized by chance, they refunded those R7 not being able to explain what happened to my airtime. Now they say I downloaded 50mb for 100 bucks.

Welcome to the club, last month i bought a data bundle (250MB) and it just vanished in a week! I only used my phone to browse the net via opera mini and the built in data counter in opera mini showed 135MB of data that was downloaded since i installed the app!

Hate vodacom!

I found the bug

I had same problem and i found out that Face book got a registration that they send a sms to the phone to approve a billing cycle to the air time.U need to reply opt out on it if u don't it takes money for some game thingy each day/week.If there is no money the moment u recharge it take all the arrears.
I phoned Vodacom and they supply me a number on max charge which i phoned and it was a investigating agency that track these deductions and with 24 hours i received a call from Dublin in the UK the company doing it and they immediately stopped the payment but did not refund my money
:)
PS: My Q was how can Vodacom allow thing like this on there network.
Reply was:They can't control things like this.
I can page back in my dairy to see if i can find that no pm me if u need it.

That's weird. How can we trust Vodacom after incidents like that?

Thanks antivoda, but I don't get any strange sms's, so I don't think this is the problem.

Strange how the cash-strapped ADSL Internet Service Providers can show us usage break-down per hour / 1/2 hour, but this extremely lucrative company with cash coming out of it's ears can not.

You referring to Vodacom i presume ?

If so you are mistaken i have tools to do this and so does the department called Advanced Data Solutions. So if you request a complete breakdown of usage it can be arranged (email if need be).

Thank you for the information.

I stopped using this product because my requests for exactly that information were not forthcoming from Vodacom.

I do not see these tools on the Vodacom 4 me website, all I see is the same lacklustre features that have been there for 2 years now.

I need to know on a day-to-day basis AND on a need to know right now basis how much bandwidth I am using. It's money I am spending dammit!

My criticism remains the same, perhaps more money should be spent on giving us visibility to the data that we pay for.
