Vodacom and LTE Devices?

Yes, but how long have you known about this ?

It came up at the MyBB conference, so at least three months, but more
likely to be six months, or longer ?

As I say every time this type of issue comes up; Why would Vodacom not want to 'take your money'?

People (like yourself) prefer Topup, so why would we want to intentionally chase you away? In every other post, Vodacom is this organization that wants to make as much revenue as possible, but then suddenly we intentionally want to limit our own income by not providing a certain function like this? (Or my other favourite; Vodacom NOT wanting to increase coverage. Same principle.)

Some have said that it's somehow that we *want* people to go OOB

That is just silly. If that's the case, why do we have TopUp and why did I make the promos available on TopUp? We did it on request of people like yourself, right?

In fact, very few people go OOB and a fraction of a fraction of a percentage experience bill-shock. And when we check, they mostly did not use the provided tools to prevent this.

To get back to the point, clearly we knew the prepaid and TopUp integration will take more effort and the project's been running for a number of months.

I'll also reiterate my other, oft repeated suggestion; if anyone can do it faster, they know where to send their CV.

Jannie, do you have an ETA when Jola's issue will be sorted? Having LTE on TopUp?

Also, as far as the mechamisms are concerned, it only works if VDC implements it. I use my modems in a router and that prevents me from seeing any balance notifications (don't even know if it is being sent - doubt it). Last night I went OOB and it is quite annoying to pay the inflated prices for data when the cheaper data cap is reached. I was told by your customer care that the notifications can be routed to my handset and I welcomed this, but it was never implemented. This happened last year sometime already. Would you kindly assist?

And while on the topic... You do realise that if you allow a hard cap on the normal data contracts, that you and Jola won't be having this argument? (Jola to confirm/deny). So perhaps this is something ro be implemented and if so, do you have an ETA for this?

Hard cap is via TopUp today - why Jola went that way in the first place. Softcap (set up by user) on both Contract and TopUp.

You should be using the ALTNUM function on the SIM in your router. We developed this a number of years ago exactly for this situation.

You could set up ALTNUM yourself by putting the SIM in a handset and and activate it via USSD.

How does softcap work? How do I get it implemented?

What is the USSD code?

Softcap is where you can put a soft-lock (also called Call Limit Lock) on your account in Rands. You say that youonly want ot go OOB by R100 (for example) and at that point your account will be 'locked' so you can't go any further OOB.

This is handy when you want enough of a buffer to have time to buy the next bundle but don't want ot be cut off but also not get bill-shock.

USSD is the codes you sens to the network to do stuff like buy bundles or activate a service. Read more here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...D-service-numbers-Vodacom-account-information

Great, but I don't want to go out of bundle at all. How do I put R0 OOB softlock on?

Jannie, I know what USSD codes are. Do you have a specific code for ALTNUM?

Just SMS ALTNUM and the new cell number to 123. (Clearly from the data SIM)

Thanks Jannie

The correct answer is to get TopUp. That gives you a perfect R0 cap.

But if you want to use CLL, best is to call 155 and see what the smallest amount is you can use. Might not be R0, but I'm not sure. Somehow recall R50.

IIRC, the big problem with call limit lock is that once you get locked you can only receive calls. You cannot make use of any weekend minutes, SMS bundles or data bundles you may have available. This may not be a problem for someone just interested in using LTE though.
But then you cannot get LTE :D

Back to square 1.
Right now, it seems Vodacom are the only South African network that will allow you to bring your own device and use their LTE network, the only restriction is that you must be a post-paid contract subscriber. Can't you take out a month-to-month contract and set a low CLL? Do Vodacom still have deviceless contracts for R9.99 per month or similar?
