You know what, sajunky....have I done something to piss you off? This is not the first time that you pitch up when I am in a conversation and you slate me if my memory serves me right. I am sorry if I am not good enough for you to be allowed to try and help people as far as I can, but you are actually pissing me off now.

And why is Ockie bolded? What does that mean? Are you trying to attract attention that you think I am just a useless piece of just another Vodacom shrill piece of crap? (which I have been called before), but all I am trying to do is help. I think you are rude and unpleasant.

If you are so fantastic, then you sort out peoples issues here.

Not going to take this crap. Honestly.
I am telling the truth. While it is noted that you are trying to help, it doesn't work, as Vodacom designed the entire system to rip of the customer and I wrote it in the same post. Nothing personal.

Why Ockie is bolded? As a rule in all my posts I write user names bolded. So I don't threat you a different and I am not going to change it. You seem to over-reacted.

You even declared in my own thread that you are my friend. So why do you think I am trying to undermine your work? Friends don't do that. :)

This is not the first time I am having a unpleasent experience with him which was uncalled for.
Then don't call such person a friend. Never. If you do, it only shows that you are not honest.
Added:
I suggested the app and that worked at least so the OP is kinda sorted I would like to think.
Perhaps you did, but please note that OP has already explained why app was ignored. It is the same in my case. So next time you suggest the app, give more details. It could help indeed, but it didn't and it is not my fault.

I actually dont know what you are referring to. But fine. I retract that statement that I made according to you but which I dont remember. I have enjoyed many of your posts as you do seem to know a lot about the technical sides of networks etc, but I have been burnt by you enough now.

I am probably the last person you should ask about this....but I will tell you what I think I know, firstly the laptop...Vodacom have a bit of software called My Vodacom, you can register a cell number at this link https://myvodacom.secure.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/log-in....once registered you can link any number of Vodacomcell numbers to this initial number that you registered with. Once you have logged in you can get access to all info relating to your contracts etc.

On a Cell Phone (which uses Android) you can search and download "My Vodacom" from Google Play store ....it appears to provide the same info as the one would use on a laptop. I assume its also available for Apple phones under "My Vodacom"
I very much doubt if this software can be used to control usage, determine usage possibly yes on a sunny day with clear skies...control usage is a big no no...the only way I am aware of that controls my usage is by using a "top up contract" as soon as I use up my monthly data allocation it cuts off my Internet Access and I have to buy a once off data bundle to bolt on to the contract. Pre paid sim where you buy data as and when you need to is another way of controlling usage.

You cannot however use this Vodacom package to control or determine any kind of info on a sim for another service provider (eg Telkom) I also do not know if Telkom offer some sort of software that can be used to achieve what you are trying to achieve.
Had been trying to unload all this anger which accomodated over years against my person, sorry to trashing your thread. Very interesting information indeed, it saves my time, as I see it will not help much in my case (if any). Anyway, you are relatively lucky on Top-up, I am on postpaid. :(

I apologize to the OP for my angry posts in this thread and not being able to assist him to his requirements. That is where the apology ends.

Sisyphus, sorry haven't read through the entire post but I use to have the same problem having to have to switch sim to phone etc (before Iphone) long time ago I use to send a text message CB to a short number and got a sms back with all the info which I just opened up in the sms reader of the Vodafone usb stick. Maybe ask them?

EDIT: Got this from the Vodacom "Community Forum"

"Thought I would share this info with you all , If you have a prepaid Data sim and you want to check the usage balance then simply sms (free) "PPD" to 31050." posted by faiekg

Not sure if it still works but worth a shot. If it works should short your problem out. Use the 3G dongle software to send SMS free and use the software to read SMS. Hope you come right
