I know this'll be moved - but hoping the right people see it before it does :P

My manager wants to get her BB to her son - primarily for BBM. She doesn't, however, want him to be able to access the Internet.

Is it possible to disable Internet and only have BBM running? Gut says no - but I said I'd ask ...

Yea - I don't know her reasons for blocking they net

@Dolby

There is a BB forum for a reason. More eyes on your post from active BB users.

If you're not going to post your threads in the correct section then what do you expect?

But those active users don't include ocelroux, Jannie or VodacomData ...

I am here, there and EVERYWHERE! :-)

I would say no...it is not possible to do this. What you can is request the inhibitor service for the "internet" APN...but all this will do is prevent him from using services that route through that particular APN. This should then disable the Vodacom browser on the phone...but the BB Browser and even Opera Mini will still function as they route through the BIS service and therefore the blackberry.net APN.

@ mmmig. For WhatsApp to work it needs either the internet or iphone APN to be active and not blocked. This will then leave the internet open on the phone.

So...from a network point of view...no I would not say this is possible. I heard of one...but is there not perhaps some kind of netnanny or blocking App available for these phones? I dont know cause I have never needed to look for one. Perhaps one of the BB gurus can assist with that.

Apparently with an iphone you can block specific apps , browser included

What a controlling woman...

They could just block or remove the browser... I suppose

Nothing wrong with being a concerned parent. Under 18 and internet is generally a bad combo, I'd do the same if I was a parent.

@OP, there is adult control measures, blocks mxit and some websites, the child will probably get around it, but worth a shot.
Vodacom should be responsible enough to have a solution for this.

We do have a Adult Content control system that we can activate on a number on request...but I think this is only effective on WASP services to prevent children from requesting pornographic material via a WASP channel. I will read up on this again tomorrow to see if there is more specific info available on this.

Problem there is BIS, controls are limited from an internet perspective. RIM does not like giving you freedom, you will have more luck getting an android or iphone as they actually have firewall applications.

Actuality once rooted you wont even need a firewall, get something like titanium backup and then delete or freeze the browser and market, that way he wont be able to access the browser or download any alternatives via the market. All things unfortunately not available to BB users, probably never will be.
