Anyone else experiencing dial-up speeds on Vodacom BIS?
Painfully slow on a already heavily congested network, this is not good for vodacom customers..
Nothing is being done to improve the service!

The problems:
=========

1. 3G speeds are no better than 2G most of the time
2. 30% of emails don't come through to the device. These emails have no attachments either. (Legitimate work email). Same with other email accounts tested.
3. 45 minutes to transfer a 3MB file over BBM, not ideal (Both BB's have 3G on and enabled!)

I need a device that can receive all my email, not to have speed issues while browsing the net.
Burnt my fingers too long with Voda BIS , like many others have too :(

My Advise:
========
Don't buy a BB, rather download whatapp as a BBM replacement
Go for an android or an iphone (both receive all mail, no data shaping)
No need to have a BB anymore..

Going for the Samsung Galaxy S3 next month :D

Vodacom have made bis a painful experience.
They are throttling the service and you are lucky if you can browse at times.
I do not care what their reps say in real world they have destroyed a once brilliant service

Ported to 8ta over the weekend and the difference is like chalk and cheese. My EDGE speeds feel way faster than 3G did on Vodacom. :D

Yeah i run a 3G 8ta speedstick and average 5MB Down, couldn't be happier. 8ta has the fastest 3G speed and best bang for your buck!

I've been a loyal Vodacom user for a long time, and after finally getting a Blackberry about 4 months ago I was quite amazed at how fast 3G was running on the UNCAPPED BIS service. (Speeds of 25-35/Kbps).

Unfortunately since the beginning of May I've been experiencing 3G speeds of between 5-9/Kbps. I'm not an abuser of the BIS service at all, I use it for which it was intended for (emails, browsing etc, downloading small attachments.) I'm thinking of switching to Cell C or 8ta if the 3G speed doesn't improve. Any help or suggestions? Regards :-)

I use the wifi on my phone. I gave up on VodaCom's BIS. Contract expires in 15 days.

It's the same posts from a year back.

Why don't VC do something on BIS?

We do, actually. Quite a lot. Increasing the capacity to RIM, managing bulk downloads, etc. have resulted in substantial speed increases. Lately I get between 1Mb/s and 2Mb/s on my BB. And that's in Sandton where Marine1 will tell you the service is bad.

I'm sure there are many places where the network is still congested but I do feel we've got the main BIS components under control now.
