Vodacom BIS throttled?

I'm on MTN and on 2G i get max 7 KB/S and on 3G max 15KB/S.It used to be much quicker before.

So do we choose Cell C now? they are actually sounding quite tempting!

Wont help, as long as the select few choose ro abuse the service the problem will affect all networks. BIS is a financial loss overall because of those few than want to download non stop. Its most likely that cellc would of seen the effect its had on voda n mtn and has already implimented shaping thresholda or deprioritization measures in place.

You cant realy blame them, data users pay anything from 20c to R2 per meg of data and then the abusers with os6 go and pay thier R60 and download 8/10/12gb each month because they feel entitled or something. Its the few that screw things up for the many.

Y do you think were 1 of the very few countries that offer an uncapped BIS, people like that are also the reason that even in America uncapped ADSL is being done away with.

Personally i no longer see any benefit in BIS, probably because i have uncappwd @ home, but on my android im almost always on wifi, partly bwcause its frew but mostly because it usea up to 70% less battery power, and over the last few months id been using less and less data on bis even before i started haing wifi or voda became zo slow. My last month with my berry id done 15mb, would of cost me less to of not had BIS. Then with my droid i haveall the featurea of my berry like push and whatsapp in place of bbm, i also have an insanely wide selection of customization options, a auper fast handset, better camera, faster internet and no need to pay for a service that i hardly use with a service quality that would make dial up took like an upgrade.

Also as all my friends were on bb and they all now ritefully fed up with the newly useless bis they all buying new phones anyway, i still say thier iphone choice could do with some reconsideration, but its not my fine and whatsapp will work so who cares.

You guys not the only ones. If I get 20kb/s on my 9300 3G then its fast. And yes when I browse webpages also time out regularly. Thought I was the only one with this problem. Guys can you do me a favour please. In your app world search for an app called fixmo tools. Its not a free app but there is a free trial. Download the trial. With the app you can check your 3g, edge and wifi speeds and please give us your results.

Ok
Here are my fixmo results

Im thick of the no-dload speed. Im not looking to get 12Gig/month, just to be able to get an file every now and then when at home (all my serious dloads are in the office on ncapped ADSL anyway)

I may just sell the BB, call the R59 BIS every month a loss & get a SGS2 :)

Hugo the speed you downloaded that is fast.I wonder if they maybe throttle certain kind of websites.

That's pretty much what i did minus the selling part and got the nexus, the guys who complain that android uses loads of airtime simply have no idea how to use their phones, if i don't download any apps, so basically normal usage then 1mb for a day would be a lot, but these people want to install hundreds of useless apps, many of them check in the background for something or don't actually close and then keep downloading adverts.

There are simple solutions, most of the proper apps like the official facebook can be set to manual update only, also adding something like Droid Wall allows you to restrict access, more useful if you have wifi access most of the day like me, i give them full wifi access and select certain apps that can work in data environment, also if you root your phone you can get an ad blocker.
The cheapest solution of all would simply be to not install useless crap, i have email, google talk, whatsapp and google+, those are the only applications allowed to use background data, for both facebook and twitter i use tweetdeck and its set to manual update only. I have a PC @ work and at home so even if i am on wifi y do i need my phone updating facebook when i am not actually using it.

Data Bundles are also a good cost saver, R119 (i think, about there) gets you 300mb, and well for me with wifi @ work and home i have so far used about 15mb of that bundle and its been 2 weeks, but with voda, not sure about the rest, i baught it on the first and it will expire on the 30th/31st of next month only so for me R119 for 2 months of data pretty much works out the same as my BIS without all the crap.

Used to use my BB on wifi as it uses up to 70% less battery than EDGE/3G so why the hell not use it?

I know this may be weird but i was trying to find a a way to make my speed go faster, and then I went to my services books and deleted Blackberry service Internet browser 2 and the speeds increased dramatically from 10kbps to 100-110kbps and Im quite happy now i dunno if it was good or not but it sure worked for me!

Coincidence, that's an old service book that was causing problems, does not actually do anything, most phones don't have it to begin with, i know mine does not, deleted it months ago and it has not yet returned.
Enjoy it while it lasts though.

Just make very very very very very sure you still on the BIS network still!! My torch, despite showing the 3G with BB sign, was using the wap APN and eating my balance credit. I use the engineering screen to make sure im on BIS.

Well Im getting great speeds on cellc. Plus I stream shoutcast with tunewiki 24/7 and it doesn't even buffer and thats a 320k stream.

Cellc seems to be getting BIS right. Love my blackberry 9300 on cellc.

I am on BIS cos I have no Airtime :P

What service book did you delete cause I have a whole list of service books.

Hi,

My BIS is being throttled so badly that it sometimes does not even open facebook! This morning I tried sending an - email (800KB) and it took 20 minutes because BIS is to slow. I am so fed - up with Vodacom lately(throttling my BIS -and- for over-charging their clients). I will be moving to Cell C soon because they are much cheaper and BIS is faster.
