this is what i have in RIM folder 9530AMEA_v5.0.0.191_P4.2.0.43 and the 230

i have these downloaded

9530-5.0.0.230(120mb) but the video instruction shows a file of 60mb ? :confused:
5.0.0.191 Storm , i have to install this before i can install 230
500_b028_multilanguage , installed the latest and removed internal tools

Am stumped

Hands down if you are going to try out a 5.0 OS, this is the one to load onto your phone. Also since the release of the updated facebook/myspace, you can get them working with 5.0.0.230! It has a working camera, flick scrolling, threaded SMS, and IM apps do work!!! You will see memory in the high 40's upon boot-up. Battery and memory pretty stable. A few glitches with the screen re-orienting, but nothing as of yet requiring a battery pull to fix.

To clarify a few things, this OS is not complete as it does not contain "ALL" the storm .230 files. Yes it will run and this version replaces the missing files with the TOUR files, so in that sense this is more like a hybrid than anything else. Please follow the instructions above however to install.

Hi there,

Did any of you have brower issues after changing to OS 5? My Internet Browser has disappeared. I only have a selection between VLive or Hotspot browsers now....

First time around i did. Made the mistake of upgrading from os 4.7 to 5. You need the wipe the phone completely before loading os 5. read the step by step guide here and follow each step to the point and it will work correctly. dont restore any thing after updating the phone. rather resync with desktop manager and redownload apps you need on the phone.

I am having issues with mine at the moment, my browser isnt working and research i have done tells me that the browsers service book doesnt support the os and vodacom has to upgrade it ?

If you or someone is running os 5.0.0.x please let me know asap or if better if you can back up your service book to an ipd file and upload it somewhere where i can download it to see if i can get mine to work.

When I had 5.0.0.238 on my 8900 I tried the procedure in the link below but did not get it working.
Because of the option that does NOT exist to turn off threaded sms I went back to 4.6.1.250 (in this version its called SMS History)

Ignore the word "Storm" as it should work with the Curve as well.

I managed to get it to work ! For me and a friend via “hacking” my service books and a friends service books into getting it to work. If you want to know how, I will try and right a step by step guide on how to do it.

Its already a hoohaa in using a MTN supplied Blackberry with a Vodacom sim in it :)

FWIW MTN charges me R0 for my BES/BIS service so I save a whole R89 I think each month.

Does any one know when vodacom will be upgrading to bis 2.8 ?

Think it will only appear when you setup and gmail account to sync with your bis account.
 
As per the link you posted you will need OS 5 for it to work.
It is also currently disabled by RIM.
I must be honest , the last OS 5 I ran on my Curve 8900 was a disaster re the Internet Browser and the relevant service books and hacking the IPD files and so on so I cannot validate this information personally.
W1tw0lf has done this from what has been said and it "seems" to work w.r.t Internet Browser working.
I know the Gmail "plugin" works when you add a Gmail account to your BIS profile but then because of other display issues I normally uninstall it from my device.

While it's been a little longer then 2 weeks it is nice to see it actually being enabled at this time. However, it does not seem to be fully functioning as of yet either. OS 5.0 is required in order for it to work, which if you have downloaded any of the leaks you should be able to use it but when checking the box to enable it produces an authentication error. It's safe to say RIM has not fully enabled it as of yet but it is coming soon and quite possibly OS 5.0 will come with it. Here's to hoping RIM makes it happen soon.

Why you say so ? i have had os 5 since the first leak on my phone and it has improved with each leak to bring the full functionalities of the tour out.
