Vodacom breaks through 1Gbps on LTE-U

That's like R256/second at R2/MB OOB rates or R22 million a day. (Will double check later when on PC.)

The pissing content continues.

I just broke 10Gbps on LTE-U by combing 10 devices together.

Vodacom cracks 1Gbps on LTE-U

Not to be outdone by its rival, Vodacom has also announced that it has achieved mobile broadband speeds of over 1Gbps.

Oh boy ..... I could not help breaking out in a loud chuckle when I saw this headline now. Dont get me wrong, it is fantastic to see these speeds and to know we could very soon be having it, but hot damn .... this is now litterally turning into a "my tollie is groter as jou tollie" race lol. But again ... I am not saying it is a bad thing ... competition is great and I do love me a groot tollie.

Competition needs to be on price not speed. Over 100Mbps is mostly useless for most.

Who is to say that wont happen, but even if it doesnt, then we still need to keep up with technology or risk becoming a country stuck in the dark ages while the rest move on. With our government still scratching their ballas about what to do with the spectrum issue, it is good that our networks are giving them the finger and making alternative plans to keep the networks flowing and data moving along with the resources they do have.

Yeah very amusing actually. Jannie will never accept being beaten. I was just about to post /queue Jannie to respond.

Just wish Vodacom can prove they are the best by eliminating OOB charges.... Now that would be a achievement Jannie can brag about since they seem unable to do anything about it...

They just don't wanna cut analogue TV otherwise they will loose their voter base propaganda :D FTTH is super competitive currently so much MTN and Voda are reducing prices.

Yet... Number of customers who will experience the same speed under normal/general consumer conditions.... Zero.

Perhaps. Did we get the test speeds that Vodacom got when they trialed LTE? No. Did we get a better experience and better speeds compared to 3G? Absolutely. So just because those speeds might not be achieved to the same extent, does that mean that LTE-U should not be made available?

Now if only ICASA will start to do their jobs ...

No but stop creating hype and expectation of something which will NEVER be the actual experience.

They are merely reporting the results of their tests. What should they do? Put out a release saying "We did the test but we not going to tell you the results"? We are all grown ups here on a IT forum. I am pretty sure that most of us can understand these are tests being done in a pretty ideal environment, and not to expect the same in a live real world network with loads of people on it.

No - the insinuation that with adequate spectrum this is what is achievable makes it far more than just a "landspeed record" type of announcement when combined with the spectrum argument. Even if Vodacom was given the entire 5ghz range exclusively this still wouldn't be the general broadband experience which is my argument. And Yes the general techie understands this but the not so tech savvy public generally have expectations that this is actually achievable.

Still waiting for Vodacom wifi calling.

Crap articles about their vaporware shouldn't be published.

Yet this morning in Centurion where I live, there wasn't even a signal to make voice calls
Yet at Lanseria Airport where I work, one can never make a decent phone call

I wish they could stop worrying about increasing the speed of data, and focus on getting the basics right: VOICE CALLS. I just want to be able to make a proper PHONE CALL...but I guess that is asking too much.
