I think you are also paying a phone off over 24 months, hence why the "downgrade" will cost you more before the end of the 24 month period as part of the price of the phone you have has been worked in to the airtime or data ..... at least that is what I think your problem is. Vodacom has been known to lack simplicity with their product offerings. An extension of my previous post ...
My Smart M+ contract ends on the 13 November and my idea was to phone in and downgrade to a Smart S thereafter. But - the guy that just phoned me said it was impossible unless a sign a new 24 month contract for the plan? He said my only if I choose to stay on Smart M+ ... do I get a month by month.
According to him, any upgrade/downgrade I do will start a new 24 month contract (without the device).
Is that right ?
You can "downgrade" your Smart Plan but it will come at a fee and I think the guy that phoned you thinks it may be better off if you wait until the contract period expires, although I am sure someone will "appear" miraculously to help you get yourself into a new 24 month contract period.
I tried to downgrade my son from uChooseFlexi 350 to 200 some time ago and the cost of the "downgrade" made it not worth it as he was still within a 24 month contract period. He wasn't using much airtime and the 350 wasn't necessary.
Nowadays the whole family is out of 24 month contract periods, all our phones are paid.
We are on uChooseFlexi 350 which gives you R350 Airtime and with that we buy Data. The nice thing is that out of contract if you buy data using the MyVodacom App you can get 2 x 100mb, 250mb, 500mb or 1Gb for 30 days. How long this will last I cannot say?
Doubt I will ever sign another 24 month period with Vodacom.
There have been sales people recently trying to offer me discounts on airtime, like get R350 airtime for R280 etc but you need to lock into a 24 month agreement, even with the phones we currently have.
I feel much happier not being locked in with anyone and turned the discount down.
Try to get yourself into this position. It may be difficult at first because of the cost of the top of the range phones is unaffordable up front.
My wife and son have been using the Samsung A5 for several years now and are still happy with it. The point of saying that is, try to get a decent phone but make it last longer than the 2 year period. Depends on the phone and of course what you need it for. We don't require the latest cell phone, the old ones are doing just fine.
