Hi all

Over the past 3 weeks, I have started to notice a trend where my phone will drop a call after a short period. Eg I call someone and then after anything from 30 seconds to a minute, I will suddenly find that the call goes dead. The timer keeps counting seconds for about 30 seconds more and then it dies. I redial and mostly, it is fine then. Happens about every 2nd or 3rd call. Seems to only be on outgoing calls.

Have others noticed this? I am trying to work out if it is me (HTC TyTN) or Vodacom. I MOSTLY call from the Randburg, Bromhof area.

It would be interesting to see if others have experienced this.

I think there is a number where VDC will reconnect you for free. It used to be 119 I think.

My HSDPA 'drops' send and recieve data after a few minutes everytime I use it. The signal stays constant but throughput stops altogether. I need to disconnect and reconnect to get throughput flowing again. This really sucks when in the middle of a big hand on online poker!

How long have you had your TyTN?

Try and set your TyTN to GSM-only in the phone settings and use for a day or two and see if it makes a difference. I suspect it's jumping between 2G and 3G. By forcing it to one bearer only, you should be able to confirm or reject this idea.

After upgrading my K-Jam to a TyTN, I've now got it back on GSM-only to stop this re-selection and increase the battery life.

Hi V3G. Thanks! Will try this. A quick question though - If I want to browse or do a mail send receive, do I need to reactivate the 3G or does this setting ONLY apply to the voice calls part?

Also just confirming - go to phone, menu, options, Band and select network type as GSM, right? Do we leave the GSM/UMTS band as auto?

Thanks

Yes, those are the right menu's. You can leave the band on auto.

It's going to keep you on GPRS or EDGE, so no, you won't get 3G speeds. Bummer, I know, but at least it'll help you move in the right direction. I believe there is a newer firmware out for the phone. Hopefully it'll allow better handover between 2G and 3G (wich I suspect is the problem)

Are we talking voice or data? Vodacom is driving me insane with dropped voice calls. In Kokstad the data is almost useless, I have contacted helpline and they said they would look into it. Right.

Just today I had 5 dropped calls on Vcom.

The little Bandswitch application will help to make these changes quickly. Also get HTweakC 2.1 as it contains a number of fixes and tweaks.

Everything you need you can find here ...........

For anything TyTn related you should pop into the MTN - TyTn thread.

The new WM5 AKU3 was released by Leaf today. Check it out in the members section.

Alternatively there are loads of other options incl. WM6 and Radio ROM's.

Can you download the file from Leaf? I get a timeout on the download page?

Been waiting for 2 months now. :(
