Vodacom Coverage Map doesn't show GPRS coverage?

all towers have GPRS. so if you have cell signal... you have GPRS.

Incorrect, not all towers have GSM/GPRS. Some towers have only 3G.

I am seeing this occur quite a bit more. Seems like they deloy 3G as there is a demand for it in a certain area, and if there is a demand for 2G (GSM/GPRS) afterwards, then they will add that feature at a later date. Since data and 3G is having such rapid growth I think all the cell companies are focusing there efforts on that.

Hi,

I am trying to find GPRS and EDGE coverage for Vodacom at a particular spot and I have noticed that GPRS coverage is not shown at all.

Is that how it works because perhaps GPRS is everywhere?

Surely that can't be?

The coverage map is http://www.vodamap.net/3g/ and what I see is http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1214/screenshot369.png (the blue star)

Many Thanks
Nick

It looks like the coverage map is broken when it comes to showing GSM/GPRS coverage.

When I am zoomed out to see all over South Africa and I disable all the radio buttons on the side, the only enable GPRS/GSM it shows mostly blue, then as soon as I zoom in, the blue starts to disappear. When I am zoomed in twice, the map does not show GPRS/GSM coverage no longer.

Oh ok, thanks guys for the explanation.

I will try to contact Voda about it cause I have been in an area in Pretoria with no GPRS coverage which affected a site I was doing there.
