I have just been along to my local Vodacom4u store.
I need some help.
If I consider the 1G data contract option I pay R599.
However I looked at the prepaid data bundle 1G and it only costs R399
am I missing something here, why is the prepaid so much cheaper for 1G?
do I get acess to 3G, Edge and HSDPA on both options mentioned above?

If anyone can help me out with the pros and cons on contract vs prepaid data. I would greatly appreciate it.

I also considered buying the Huawei E220 usb datastick outright for R2 679.
but MTNSP shop around the corner is selling the same data usb stick for
R1849.

If I bought the E220 usb data stick at MTNSP shop and a prepaid/contract data bundle from the Vodacom4u store, would there be any implications.

Please advise
Regards

Vodacom currently does not allow data bundles on prepaid. However, databundles on (voice) contracts are attractive because it provides more flexibility than a data contract' you can change up or down in amount of traffic. The HSDPA options cost around R100 more than 3G for 1 GB/month. The remainder of the difference between data contract and bundle is most likely the cost of the data adapter (PCMCIA or USB). Do a bit of homework; you may be able to get the HSDPA adapter at a lower cost on special offers of contracts....

Remember the real Pay as you go that is available from Vodacom - It is called the 4U Contract. There is no monthly payment and you can buy bundles on this contract. A 3G 1 gig bundle will cost you R399 and a HSPDA 1 gig bundle will cost R499. My father is using this and is also receiving a discount of R21 per month - making this the cheapest 3G/HSPDA rates available.

Data cards costs about R1000 offline so the saving over a 2 year contract can be as much as R2900.
