Vodacom Data plan suggestion

I've been using prepaid airtime for a year or two but after changing jobs I've needed a lot more data than before.

I use to buy around R100 airtime a month and get the 7 Day 100MB data plan which was sufficient as everywhere i go had Wifi.
Due to certain circumstances and me being out often I use around 500MB a week now minimum (up to 1GB a week), I usually buy the 14 day 1GB data option but it usually finishes early, this being said I'm already up to R200+ airtime per month.

I noticed Vodacom has deals like the 5GB Data Price Plan Top up which is 5GB Data Anytime (plus some other night data and stuff) for only R199pm/24months.

Anyone on these deals? are they worth it or are there better options for me? (95% of my airtime went to Data, I hardly ever call or SMS)
I will need to keep my number so Vodacom will probably be the only option, I'm not on a tight budget so I dont mind the 299pm 10Gb anytime plan either.

Port to Telkom or consider the MTN Easter special (R199 for 20GB + 20GB)

Problem would be changing numbers.
I see Vodacom has a 30Gb anytime data offer for 299 pm which seems like a really good offer.

Why change numbers? Just port

Edit: I have a strong suspicion that Vodacom deal you posted is a typo. I think that price is meant to be for the 10GB data deal, not the 30GB one

I got a similar deal Sept 2017.

If I didn't have a dual SIM phone, I would take that contract with a new SIM, and use a tablet in my bag as a hotpot for my laptop and cellphone.
 
Is there any cost to porting or is it a mission or not worth it?

The offer is 30GB anytime + 30GB bonus anytime + 30GB night which makes it basically 60GB anytime + 30GB night for R299. Wouldn't it be more viable to just add the contract to my current Vodacom number?

You can try, but they might not want to Vodadumb are sometimes like that.

I am getting 100+100 for R600pm from them so easily plausible...

It could be genuine, in which case it is indeed a very good deal and worth taking by the OP. The thing that makes me unsure is that the page it is listed on (https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/shopping/big-data) has the following SIM-only deals (in this order):
  • 5GB @ R199 (5GB + 5GB bonus +5GB night-owl)
  • 30GB @ R299 (30GB + 30GB bonus +30GB night-owl)
  • 20GB @ R399 (20GB + 20GB bonus +20GB night-owl)
  • 30GB @ R499 (30GB + 30GB bonus +30GB night-owl)
With a mobile wifi device those options become:
  • 5GB @ R229 (5GB + 5GB bonus +5GB night-owl)
  • 10GB @ R329 (10GB + 10GB bonus +10GB night-owl)
  • 30GB @ R529 (30GB + 30GB bonus +30GB night-owl)

Called Vodacom about the 30GB Anytime + 30GB Bonus anytime + 30GB Night, and they said it is on special so I signed up with them. Checked my data and it is indeed correct, just have to check the billing at the end to confirm.

Thanks for this, I was following your thread and because of this feedback I'm signing tomorrow.
 
Mtn has datashare where you can share your data with up to 20 Sims. Does vodacom have something similar for these contacts?

Can you make calls from this SIM and what is the charge per minute? I assume one can top up airtime to make the calls?

Yeh you can make calls and top up with Airtime, You can use your airtime to buy Data and stuff as well if it runs out so its like prepaid except you have the contract data per month.

I am not sure on how much per minute, how do you check? All I know is that it is a lot :ROFL: I try to stay away from calls and stick to whatsapp calls.
