I'm sure there is probably another thread that I can't find on this. With all the noise about mobile data prices, and being in the market (possibly) for a mobile data contract, I took a look at Vodacom prices. To me the problem isn't so much that Vodacom are expensive when compared to the other SP's. They are a bit more, but their network does seem to be better. Where I have an issue is the big price difference between mobile data bundles for your smartphone and mobile data for a data only contract. If I want 2GB on top of my normal Smartphone contract I need to pay R249, whereas if I take out a data only SIM card it is R109. I would happily sign up to 24 months at R109/pm if I could get it on my phone instead of another device (or dual SIM phone).

I realise there are commercial considerations I may not be aware of, but to me, the difference is too big.

Just another fail by VC and their marketing systems. For example this company thinks it is fooling the consumer, lets give you an good example.
Data by VC is marketed as and the EHOD (Executive Head of Department) will confirm that this will NEVER CHANGE.
1) BROADBAND DATA=Contract/Top Up Data with or without a device for eg. Router and 20GB x 24months for R599pm.
2) SMARTPHONE DATA=The old Ad Hoc Data Bundle (a) Once Off (b) Monthly Re-occurring to any Data contract or Voice line eg. 20GB for R999 Once Off/pm
THEY STATE THESE ARE TWO DIFFERENT PRODUCTS!!!!!

What does this mean in practice? Well lets have a look.
A) It means two separate lines with two pools of data that cannot be joined in daily use across devices ONLY on open ended contracts NOT Top-Up Hybrid with Multi Dats SIM coupled to your voice contract.
B) VC are CROSS SUBSIDISING their data products.

Other network operators here and in the UK (Vodafone) offer One Line and Multi Data SIMS enabling the customers to have ONE POOL of data across multi devices. Wakeup VC you do not FOOL the SA Consumer

Unfortunately I think in most cases they do fool the SA Consumer.

Surprisingly the My Broadband journalists are fooled by VC Data pricing if we look at past news items.
