Using the Vodacom4me website I accidentally selected to activate a MyGig 1.2 month-to-month bundle as opposed to the ad-hoc one which I usually use.

I'm not too put out by that as there is a good chance I will use it every month however I then received 2 sms messages:

1.) to welcome me to the 'Vodacom primary Email service' with a 3G email box and a bunch of login credentials etc.

2.) to inform the that my GPRS service has been migrated to MyGIG 1.2

....here is the problem:

1.) I do not want this. I do not want any email etc. from vodacom whatsoever. I am ok with it if I canjjust ignore it but I certainly do not want to be charged for it... in any way.

2.) GPRS??? No thank you, I want a 3G bundle but I am quite experienced with the very odd sms that I get from Vodacom from time to time... is this just another one of those or have I actually bought GPRS data?

...is here some way that I can just roll this back and get the ad-hoc bundle I usually use? All of this rocket science is wasting my time and money, I just want 1.2gigs of 3G data added to my account please.

Thanking you in advance.

Hello Slinky.

Merely go back on the Vodacom website and de-activate the service again. You have now already been charged for it, and therefore the system will only de-activate the bundle come end of this month. Just have a look on the website as to how much data you were allocated, as month - month bundles normally get activated and charged pro-rata. Dont want you to go crazy with data usage and then you were only charged and allocated 20 megs of data.

The email service is a bonus that you get, and it is up to you if you want to use it or not. The email service will fall away once the month-month bundle is de-activated.

Hope this helps.

....update:

Just sent an sms containing: 'MM' to 31050, response says I have 195meg left on my bundle... this is about as far out of any kind of sense as anything you could imagine.

I would really like to know what the hell is gong on now...

So I have been charged, then I deactivate it and then what? Lose the R289 or however much it is?

Please see my first response. I talk about pro-rata allocation for month to month bundles in there.

Yes, you have been charged, but also only pro - rata. If you de-activate the service now on the website, you wont be charged again next month.

Not sure what the new site says, but the v4me site had a specific note to say if you cancelled a data bundle you forfeit the balance.

Not sure then Morkhans. I very seldom use the Vodacom website as I do all my activations - deactivations on the system. As far as my working knowledge goes with these things, when a montly bundle gets activated, it gets done pro-rata. When a once off service gets activated, full allocation and charge will apply. When a monthly bundle gets cancelled during the month, the service will run untill the end of that month to allow you to use the allocated data or SMS's which you have paid for.

Perhaps VD can back this up for me and give you guys some peace of mind.

Got it :)

...I follow the logic here and it does seem sound, does Vodacom follow and adhere to it though?

That's what has me worried... Going to stand dead still and not do anything until I hear from Vodacomdata I think. My confidence in systems like this is nothing worth mentioning ;)

Your take on it is how I would expect it to work, its just always bothered me because that's what v4me used to say (I am still waiting for a fix so I can register on the new site).

I was told yet another story by the call centre, month-to-month bundles are only pro-rata for the first month, thereafter they run from the 1st to the end of the month. This explains why if you buy a 200 SMS bundle, finish it before the end of the month and then upgrade to a 300 SMS bundle, the 300 SMS bundle will only take effect on the 1st of the next month.

That is correct yes. The system will load the de-activation for the old bundle for the end of the month, and the activation of the new bundle will be loaded for the beginning of the following month. Should you require a bigger SMS bundle for the rest of the month while you wait for the new bundle to take effect next month, you can always request a once off bundle of a suitable size to be activated for you (which will then be charged @ full price and the full bundle will be allocated.)

[-]So Slinky's best option is to wait until next month and then cancel the month-to-month bundle as it will deactivate at the end of next month. If he runs out before then he can just buy an ad-hoc bundle as usual.[/-]

Scratch that, as he'll be given a new bundle on the first.
Best bet is to ask VD to reverse the whole thing.

WTH do they make it so complicated?

Very much hoping this is possible...

WTH do they make it so complicated?

The more options there are and the harder they are to understand the greater the possibility of the user making a mistake/misunderstanding and blowing cash or simply throwing their hands in the air and resigning themselves to paying for whatever just to get on with their lives.

Hi Still waiting on the number in question?

Billing systems are tricky beasts, just ask MTN ;)
I don't think it's a problem with the billing system, there are 52 different data bundles listed on the services page of vodacom4me, it's just more complicated than it needs to be.

Agreed.

BTW: Vodacomdata has contacted me, explained the options, helped me choose on and then made the changes vodacom-side.

Thanks very much dude, I am so glad I didn't have to try and explain this all to a call centre agent.
