So how you suppose they mail it to you in 10kb increments , or do you want the +- 10mb raw data instead when its not compressed.And on top of that its personal data , so you suggest that they do not encrypt it as well ?

Well I will never accept my invoice / statement via e-mail. Simply cause I gotta pay to download it.:mad:
 
Doesn't anyone have the number to sms to get your statements by email?

Look at your next statement - you will see you pay per Mb or GB. If the attachment becomes bigger it means you use more Mb or kb or whatever to download the mail. More MB means more money.

Further:
1. The invoice can be significantly reduced in size.
2. It is a pdf and NOT an encrypted file.

Simple example:
Standard Bank e-mail with encrypted statements of 3 accounts: 52kb
Vodacom monthly statement: 457kb

Clear enough I hope

Jokes aside - yes half a meg is pi$$-poor from whatever workflow software they are using to produce the statements..... but I would personally still rather receive all of my accounts in digital format than wait for snail mail.

No, he's not.

Why does the electronic statement have to be an exact copy of the posted version? Just because Marketing say so? Pictures, etc do not add to the value of the invoice and statement - only the numbers, etc are meaningful.

It can be reduced to 50K. Remember that Vodacom is not the only company sending out statements, whatever. The bytes quickly add up if they all send out picture bloated stuff.
 
wikus, that system isn't working (for me in any case). I received my statements for a couple of months, and then it just stopped ...

You are missing the point by a mile:
  1. Companies save $$$ by sending the statement by e-mail
  2. 'Save a tree' is spin, nothing else
  3. If companies are so concerned about saving trees they won't advertise in newspapers, making them thinner thus really saving trees
  4. Vodacom is NOT the worst in this respect, DSTV's statements go to 2MB+. I sent them an e-mail and asked them to revert back to paper
Amazingly many companies find innovative ways to spam, and I consider this a form of spam too, but won't go to a little trouble to be efficient. Then again, improving the bottom line is what it is about.

Ask VodacomData what is the profit /Mb and how many subscribers opt for electronic invoices, figure the postage and printing costs... I bet it is the equivalent of quite a few Megs...

This is why I won't accept statements by email unless I am offered a discount.

1) I'm not a tree-hugger
2) I also do not subscribe to the whole "man-made global warming" BS....

Wouldn't surprise me if they start sending the DISH magazine via email to soon. LOL - now there's a profit boost!

But seriously.. I don;t really worry about email attachments even though I am on a capped ADSL package.

But yes - if you are using WIFI\GSM service I would imagine large attachments would become annoying very very soon
