Vodacom3g, I want you to confirm why Vodacom claims that the iPhone 3G 8GB have been 'discontinued'? However, nowhere do I see online that it has been discontinued, and I dont think the double the cost for the 16GB is worth it. This truely is disappointing, as the Feb/Mar 2009 Vodacom catalogue still shows the iPhone 3G 8Gb version. Where can I confirm this/??

It is in the process of being discontinued.
I suggest you find a store that has one left... theres a few around.

Probably because the 8gig one isn't being manufactured anymore.
Apparently the new iPhone coming out in June will be in 16gig and 32gig models.

(All rumours)

Yes, the signs are out there that the current model is on the way out. June should see iPhone OS 3.0 and the bet is it will be released with a new iPhone model.

If you follow some of the news on iClarified you will see that other carriers across the globe are also shedding their left over stock.

So if you can find one at another store go for it, otherwise talk them into a good deal on the 16GB (which should also be dropping in price).

The 'good' deal the one local Vodashop want to give me is pay in an extra R2800 on the 16GB model ...... that on a Talk 130 contract

That was about the pay in for an 8GB before they dropped it, considering that the price difference between the 8GB the 16GB is about R1000. I would say that if the 8GB is now free (if you can find it) a R1000 pay in sounds more fair.

Yeah, the 8gig is free, and thats why I WILL NOT pay in R 2800 for the 16gig model, that for 8gig extra .... :(

For most people, 8 gigs is more than enough.
It's only if you want to put a lot of videos, tv series etc on it when you'd need bigger.
But since u need to charge the phone at least every 3rd day and can sync it as well, you may as well just keep less on it, and only keep stuff on it that you'll actually use.

the one shop said they still had stock but are not allowed to sell it and have to send it back to vodacom

I found a store with stock, but the 1st excuse why I couldn't get it was that I have 3 lines already under my name, I can't have more... Then I told them last year I had 5, I closed down 2 when the contract was over...

Then they said there's a new clause that you can't apply for a new contract within 3 months of taking a previous one. And because I applied again today, the 3 months starts again today, even though it wasn't approved...

And that wasn't at a small store somewhere in the sticks - I phoned 0821950 - got the word straight from them... I told them it's bull, and wanted to speak to a supervisor... They couldn't transfer me and told me the supe would phone me back. That was yesterday, no call yet...

So how much is the location of the last iPhone 3G 8GB worth to anybody? PM me & all will be revealed!
