So my iPhone 5 through MTN has 4 bar signal in my house... When I plug it in I can surf the web (fast), play World of Warcraft online - yes I even healed in a raid and didn't kill any one. I also play Sim City - have the collectors edition.

Then I figured why pay out of bundle rates (which are sky high) to use my phone, I'll just go Vodacom LTE.

What a failure.

The software is buggy as hell.
The link is utterly useless. I can't even play Sim City with it - its not even an internet intensive game! I find browsing to be utterly poor, intermittent, and definitely don't try to do anything during the day! You will surely die of boredom waiting for a website to load.

The signal strength is a consistent 3 bars - and that should work sufficiently for browsing. Its a rubbish service, and we're locked in a 24 month contract, and there's bugger all anyone will do about it.

I tell you I am so sick and tired of Vodacom - I am so glad I moved to MTN. At least their 3G frikkin WORKS - and it works better than LTE.

So fair warning people - don't get suckered by speedtest.net results - this is a rubbish service and we're all getting ripped off.

If swearing was aloud on this forum, I'd tell Vodacom to **** off.
Rant concluded.

Now to suck up the rest of the 23 months of this contract.
 
ah - lucky I did a ctrl-a ctrl-c and copied my rant, cos the LTE timed out trying to post it. pffffffft.

F A I L = Vodadom. And with their new red rubbish, imagine how congested their network will be?
 
Just tested LTE in Illovo, Johannesburg, runs at about 10% of the speed of Vodacom 3G.

So much for LTE, not sure why I bothered.
 
Hmm, now gotten even worse, good reception but no throughput.

Behaves exactly like my Cell C 3G, must be a congestion issue ???

did you change your APN to the LTE one? Also, once your sim is put into a LTE device, it can take the system up to 24 hours to update and provision your for LTE.
 
Yes, I am using the LTE APN, and am using Vodacom LTE at the moment - modem is set to 4G only.

The switch to and from LTE is quite noticeable, 3G is much faster than LTE.

But I have been in touch with Jannie, maybe there is a solution for this.

I started using LTE last night, and will monitor it over time.

Looking at this LTE APN reminds me of when Vodacom long before the Vodafone merger offered two 3G APN's namely 3Mbs and for R50pm you got the more than 3Mbs APN which was all folded into the internet.apn as their network expanded and matured. I foresee the lte.vodacom.za APN following the same path of being folded into the internet.apn as their LTE network expand and mature with more LTE Servers running country wide. As to when this will happen Jannie is better qualified to confirm, until then LTE users will experience problems.:)

I have discontinued using Vodacom LTE, it is just too slow, and I can't even run Speedtest without it failing.

This is with reasonable signal.

3G works well, so have just reverted to 3G :

When I went to Vodacom to ask about getting a LTE device cause I seem to have coverage the guy told me "Nah its not working that good hey"...


Hmmm great...

From what I see Vodacom's Coverage is greater in my side of Durban. Maybe not enough capacity is allocated for such a data hungry service. Right now the LTE race is who has it, who has coverage...worry about the other stuff later

What is being done about the LTE situation over at Vodacom headquarters?

We are now 6 months on since launch and the LTE service is not getting better. It's actually getting worse.
 
I have given up on Vodacom LTE, very poor performance.

Normal 3G with APN=internet works best, am just using that.
