Vodacom makes native 5G call on testnet

Vodacom South Africa has announced that it successfully made the first native voice call on 5G in the country, also known as Voice over New Radio (VoNR).

The call was made on Vodacom's test network — an important prelude to launching the service on the live network.

With the advent of VoLTE mobile services, Vodacom said users experienced improvements in call setup times and better call quality.

Vodacom said 5G-native VoNR calls will build on this with even faster call setup times, superior voice quality with ultra-high-definition audio, and reduced background noise.

It would be nice if MyBB could do an article on the call quality over the different technologies.

Have a standard lossless audio file that is played on a sending phone (either via a speaker at a set distance and noise controlled room, or directly on the phone somehow), and the receiver phone recording the call in a lossless format.

Force the call to 2G/3G, VoLTE, VoNR, VoWIFI and then WhatsApp and record the results, including call setup time and quality.
