I have a 24 month (Smart M) which ends in 2 weeks.

Vodacom haven't got any decent packages so I've decided to rather migrate to a lower package (Smart S+) and go on a month to month. The really weird thing is they want to charge me a R1,600.00 penalty fee for migrating to this only 2 weeks early and I need to rather phone back in 2 weeks.

Isn't this wrong? I'm sure according to CPA they could only charge the balance of the contract?
Aside from the above, poor form for a network wanting to actually keep clients from porting or going of the other, cheaper networks.

Check that the date you are using is not your "upgrade" date, which would be 2 months before the end of your contract.

Also check that you didn't upgrade early previously, as those remaining 2 months still need to be added on. So you could still be 4 months shy of completing your contract.

How much are you paying p/m on your contract?

The upgrade date was 13 August 2018 and the actual end of contract of contract date is 13 November 2018. So from November, I wanted to go to a smaller contract. Right now, I'm only paying R499pm, so I thought the penalty would be the balance of a contract ie R250.00 penalty for the half month at worse.

Just ride out the 14 days. It will take 10x longer just to get someone on the phone that could, maybe, sort it out for you.

Yea I am :(

I just wanted to get everything ready by the start of the new month.

make sure that you have asked to be moved to prepaid when the contract ends (if you want to port out) or you will have to wait another month.

I don't mind being on a month by month really - so I think from the 13th November I automatically drop to the same contract, buy month to month? But I'm dropping contract as well.

If your 24 months are up you will stay on the same plan.

If the phone was part of the contract, this amount should now be removed from the monthly payments. i.e if the plan was R150 and the phone was R150, you are paying R300/pm. After the 24 months it should be only R150/pm.

You now can give one months notice if you wish to change plans or port out, without penalty. If you change to anything other than prepaid you will sign up for another 24 months. Suck? Yes. Even if you are willing to throw more money at them.

Give them a notice of termination, with request of moving to prepaid, it is the most important thing. During the time they will come to you with 'specials'. I can assure, they will.

Urgh ... now they phoned and offered exactly what I wanted to do anyway !

I'm starting a new thread / question
