Hey guys...

I'm seriously annoyed with vodacom. Who is the best person to contact with complaints?

Long story short... ish...

I decided to stick with VC for another 24 months because I thought the data sim feature would be usefull (I have other devices that can share the data). The only limitation to data sims mentioned on the website is that you have to be a voice or data contract subscriber.

So because VC had no iPhone stock I went and bought one cash.. walked into the vodacom shop only to be told that the data sim service is not available on my contract... this bit of information conveniently didn't make it onto the website.

So, I gave up corporate discount from MTN so that I could stick with VC, went and payed R7000 for a new phone - because VC had no stock in cape town - all for this stupid data sim that they falsely advertised as being available.

Any ideas what I could do now?

Thanks
Craig

Is is possible to do it in this way then..

I would like to get the data contract thats starting on 1 May (the 2gb + 2gb one). Could I add that to my existing topup 315 contract so that I can use the data on my phone as well as get my monthly R315, and then get a data sim against that contract to use in my iPad?

I am afraid not. That special will be a new contract and line on its own...meaning you will get a separate sim that is linked to it. Data Sim can not be activated on MyMeg and MyGig pacages either. It is only available on Weekender, Talk 120 - Talk 1000.

Same s h i t different color.

I've now gambled (and lost) on vodacom having changed. Might as well take a gamble with Cell c for my data needs... At least I'll loose less.

Thanks for the help.

I'm on a top up 315.
Why don't you migrate your contract to a Weekender or one of the Talk120 - Talk1000 packages and then you can make make use of the Data SIM service?

Certain services like Data SIM and Night Owl are not available on pre-paid and top-up contracts because of the different billing system they use.

I've been looking into it. but the guy I just spoke to at the walk in center said that there is no way to cap those accounts, at least no way thats guaranteed. When it comes to R2 per MB, I definitely want a cap.

@ VodacomData:

Please can you arrange for the T&C's to be updated accordingly:

I do not see them mentioning that Data Sim is not available on prepaid and Top Up.

What are the Business Rules of Multi Data SIM?

Multiple data SIMs will be available to postpaid customers via service providers.
Top Up and prepaid customers do not qualify for multiple data SIMs.
Multiple data SIMs will be available on 24-month data, month-to-month data, 24-month voice and month-to-month voice contracts.
A customer can have a maximum of 5 active SIMs per contract (thus a customer with more than one contract can have more than 5 active SIMs).
The 5 SIMs per contract can consume from the data bundle associated with the contract simultaneously (except where one the 5 active SIMs is a Blackberry SIM - see rule regarding Blackberry SIMs).
The primary and Twincall SIMs are counted as one.
If the primary MSISDN has the Twincall service, the existing Twincall rules apply.
Only the primary SIM and Twincall SIM will be provisioned with the T11 service.
The multiple data SIMs will not be provisioned with the T11 service.
A Blackberry SIM will be viewed as a multiple data SIM and therefore count towards the maximum 5 SIMs per contract.
The Blackberry SIM will not consume from the associated data bundle as the Internet APN is not provisioned on the Blackberry SIM.
If a SMS or MMS is sent to a multiple data SIM MSISDN, the SMS/MMS will be sent to the requested MSISDN and not the primary SIM MSISDN.
The Service Provider, at the request of the subscriber, will add the multiple data SIM service to an existing contract subscription. When the multiple data SIM service is added, a new SIM is activated and linked to the connection instance. The multiple data SIM cannot be an existing contract SIM.
Any other services added to any of the multiple data SIMs (e.g. roaming) can only be done at the request of the primary contract holder.
When reporting for capacity purposes (e.g. HLR capacity or MSISDN utilisation), the primary and multiple data SIMs (and their associated services and MSISDNs) should be reported separately. When reporting for incentive purposes (e.g. connection incentives or loyalty) only the primary SIM should be counted.
The multiple data SIMs may never acquire a bundle (airtime or data bundle). The multiple data SIMs must be on the same contract tariff plan and no links across tariff plans are allowed.
The multiple data SIMs cannot exist separate from the primary SIM.
A customer can only apply for additional multiple data SIMs if they already have a TNM1 data SIM active. TNM1 is a Data SIM and TMN2 is a Blackberry Data SIM
If the TNM1 data SIM is deactivated all associated multiple data SIMs except the Blackberry data SIM will be deactivated.

I have run into this problem. My 2gb 24 month data contract apparently does not qualify because it is "top up". see these links. no mention of the above restrictions.

My favourite is this:

Who is the Multi data SIM service available to?

All voice and data contract customers will be able to use this service.

thanks. i understand this option. it just seems stupid that i can't use the data i'm already paying for just because of some technicality. imagine being genuinely helpful as a service provider?

Agreed, am in the same boat now. No 3G for my iPad.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. I still don't understand the reasoning. What difference is it where I consume the data??? WTF?

The difference is a technicality. Top-up contracts run on the pre-paid billing system whereas post-paid contracts run on the post-paid billing system.

The pre-paid billing system allows for realtime billing and hard capping.
The post-paid billing system allows for multiple "buckets" like anytime and night owl and multiple SIMs.

Vodacom have been using this excuse for long enough though.

As you know (and indicated above) a current systems limitation. Good news is that the new systems are in active build. But it's not quick, think many months.
