Hi Guys

I need broadband ASAP, and don't have a line for ADSL... since the general concensus is that iBurst sucks latetly, it seems Vodacom or MTN are whats remaining. Now my question, these data cards that they rip us off with, can you use them accross networks? Say now I get the Vodacom setup, and it sucks, can I use the same data card on MTN, i.e. swap the sim card? Or do I need to pay another small fortune for a relatively cheap-to-manufacur card?

Thanks. ;)

First off, I wouldn't generalize the fact that IBurst sucks. It really depends on what you want to use your broadband for. Yes, it is heavily shaped on p2p,torrents etc and online gaming is not ideal due to packet loss and latency, but then that also depends on the tower you connect to and the load on it.

What I am trying to say is, if you gonna use the internet for browsing and downloading from http sites as well as E-mail, IBurst might be your ideal solution.

As far as your question, I dont think that they would be interchangeable. A question, why would you want to buy a data card? Why not just connect your phone via bluetooth (or cable) to your pc and get yourself a data bundle which includes a certain about om MB per month?

I currently use that setup through MTN with a 500 Mb bundle for almost R300, and for me, it works fine.

It al depends on what you want to do.

Yep, go for it. FIrst try Vodacom and see how slow and unreliable it is, then try MTN. Also try Virgin and you can then feel able to compare them.
MTN seem to have a bottomless cup for their data at the mo. Even if you buy a R15 voucher, it sometimes never ends. Mainly on weekends.

All these E220 and E620 modem cards are supposed to be open, ie not network locked, you can even change the firmware, thus have MTN software on a Vodafone card and visa versa. So I hear ;)
