yep ..... on my iPhone the APN has to be "internet". why doesn't the 'iphone.vodacom.co.za APN work on my iPhone 3G???

If you had read the thread then you would know that you need to call vodacom to have the iPhone APN activated.

Currently there is no difference between the internet and iPhone APN so you can use whichever.

question remains .... WHY do you have to phone vodacom????? what is the difference between using 'iphone.vodacom.co.za' and 'internet'? if they are both functionally the same.... why have 2 different ones?

Currently there is no difference between the two APN's. There might however be some special service specific to the iPhone that may only be available on that APN (just like Blackberry have their own APN).

As to why you have to contact Vodacom to activate it? Probably because it's specific to the iPhone and they are not going to active it for everyone by default. It's really not a big deal if the help lines aren't flooded it's done in 2min. Heck VCD has it done for people.
